Article on QB recruit Josh Jordan

Nice (local) story with a little background in the future ISU signal caller.

    He runs a 4.5 40. Not bad.

Re: St. Amant's Jordan commits early to Iowa State

Hopefully he's one of those great "athletes" that is willing to be converted to another position. That or he may be waiting in the wings for awhile until Arnaud clears out of the position. In either case, that's great news, pulling a recruit out of Louisiana. I'm not sure I've ever seen that before...

Nice...we've got a lot of talent at QB for the next 6 years it sounds like.

What about Bates, his HS highlights impress me more than AA.

It also looks like we aren't done recruiting QBs this year.

I thought they said they would only recruit one guy to play quarterback, and probably convert the rest of them.

I'm not convinced Bates is going to end up being a QB when all is said and done, especially since Arnaud seems to be getting the quality reps in practice. Bates has far too much talent and athletic ability to just let him sit and rot behind Arnaud on the QB depth chart. I think you'll eventually find him either at RB, WR, or DB.

I don't disagree at all. I think it will be an open battle in '08 between these two and whoever doesn't win the job, will be on the field in a different capacity. Have not heard anything this fall out of Bates...would be nice to hear how he's doing.

I'm not sure why you would want to move the back-up QB to a different position (assuming Bates is the back-up in 08). The starter could be injured on the first play of the season. A 3rd or 4th string QB maybe, but why make your 2nd best QB learn a new position? Unless he says he'll quit if he can't move, which is apparently what Flynn did.

Where did you hear that about Flynn? I have not heard that before.

Unless you've got some sort of inside info, I have never heard Flynn gave the staff an ultimatum. He wanted to play and help the team. He approached the WR coach at the time and the rest is history.

Re: Article on QB recruit Josh Jordan

I thought I remembered something about him going back to Texas to talk with his family about a possible transfer to a school closer to home and his girlfriend after he was beaten out of the QB job by Meyer. Even if that's true, it is a leap to conclude that he told the coaches to "play him or trade him". So, post in haste, repent in leisure! Sorry Austin.

I'm not so sure Arnad is the annointed one to take over at QB. Bates may be quicker and faster...depends on what vision for that position is by ISU coaches.

Quick and faster has nothing to do with being a better QB - look at Vick. If Arnaud is able to put it in the receivers' hands better than Bates, and from what I've heard over the last year, Arnaud has a better arm than Bates, then Arnaud can be as slow as Dan Marino and I'd still want him as QB.

Re: Article on QB recruit Josh Jordan

Arnaud is a helluva athlete to begin with. Im sure Bates is a great athlete, but what really matters is who is a better football player and leader, not whos faster. I remmeber since Austen was a soph in HS, ive thought he would be a great player. Next spring will be very important. If Jordan wants any shot at p[laying, he will enroll at ISU over the spring semester so he can compete with em.
