Vince Young out, Fisher stays in TN

Surprising that Bud Adams made this decision. Most expected him to keep Young and ditch Fisher.

The Titans announced on Wednesday that QB Vince Young will not be returning to the team in 2011. Owner Bud Adams released a statement about the quarterback situation. “As you are aware, we have been engaged in a series of internal discussions over the last month about the future of our football team," Adams stated. "We have two critical decisions to make – the direction of the coaching staff and the future at the quarterback position. They are separate issues to me and will be dealt with separately. Today, I informed our general manager Mike Reinfeldt to move forward with plans to begin the process of identifying the next quarterback for our franchise. He will inform Vince Young’s agent that Vince will not be on our roster next season. I want to offer my personal thanks to Vince for all of his positive contributions to the club. These kinds of decisions are never easy and this is especially true for this particular player. I certainly wish that things would have worked out better, but I think it is best for the franchise that we move on at this point. I also informed Jeff (Fisher) today that I was continuing the evaluation of the coaching staff and I am hoping to make a decision soon.”

    Titans Statement on Vince Young

It doesn't say anything definitive on Fisher's status, yet.

He's got the talent but he's also a headcase. It would be a tough call for me but I'd probably take a gamble with him.

The statement doesn't say it, but pretty much all the national writers are saying that since Vince is gone that they'll keep Fisher. Especially given the amount of vacancies right now and the potential lockout.

Probably the best thing for all parties involved. Fisher is more valuable than Young, Fisher never wanted Young, and as such it's debatable whether he ever had an honest shot to be "the man" in Tennessee. Not arguing Young hasn't acted like a spoiled brat - he has. He has a lot of growing up to do. But he's also a guy that feels like his coach never was going to give him an honest chance. I mean, one mistake and the coach is already warming up Collins? That's no way to develop a young QB.

I'll agree on some of the points, but it should be pointed out that VY just completed his 5th year in the league. In the NFL, that isn't 'young'. He started 54 games in 5 years, I'd say he had a fair shake for the most part.

He wins football games. I would take him in a heart beat over a 50% of the QBs in the NFL.

Aaron Rodgers was drafted the year before Vince Young - virtually EVERY expert considers Aaron Rodgers a "young" QB...

Can we get a CyBookie as to where he lands. My top 4 guesses would be Minnesota, Denver, Arizona, Seattle.

What adjectives the media uses to describe players has nothing to do with what I said. The fact is that Young came into the league and started from the get go, 5 years later he is being let go. That's not what I consider a 'young' QB.

For whatever it's worth, I think when you hear Rodger's referred to as young it is used in a different context. For example, when talking about the best young QB's in the league compared to the Brady's, Mannings, etc..

Funny to note however, that Young is actually older than Rodgers.

I agree. 54 starts? If that rates as being a "young" QB then how many starts does it take to graduate to the next level? Most QBs would kill to be given 54 starts in the NFL to prove themselves!
