A realistic look at our 13-2 Record

We are 13-2! One of the best starts in school history. The second best start for a first year head coach. But come on everyone let's be realistic about how good this record actually is. We have people talking about the NCAA tournament. Not gonna happen. We will make the NIT at best. That's a good thing when looking back at the pre season predictions for us. Here's a breakdown at how good our 13-2 record actually is.

    (346 teams total)
    Win-Northern Arizona 8-6 RPI: 118
    Win-Alabama State 3-11 RPI: 272
    Win-Drake 6-8 RPI: 221
    Win-Creighton 10-5 RPI: 112

It would be great, I think, if we finish in 7th in the Big XII, just like our present RPI.

Yeah, I'm not sure how many people on CF are really discussing us making the NCAA Tourney with any legitimacy. There just aren't that many. If you read the boards you'll see that most fans have no illusions about where we're at, and how good we are. There are a lot of excited people and a lot of hopeful people, but don't confuse optimism for bravado. I don't think you'll find much of that at all.

I hope this paints a better picture of what CFrs are actually thinking for you.

There have been threads about "will we make the NCAA tournament." And that was one sentence of my whole thread. A lot of people are looking at our 13-2 record as a huge accomplishment when really it's nothing that special. That's the only point i was trying to get across. Relax.

Re: A realistic look at our 13-2 Record

Did anyone catch CFH's interview after the NIU game where he said someone had voted ISU as the most overrated team in the B12 at the same time as we are predicted to finish last. Not sure what the source was, but thought it was pretty funny.

Easier schedule but we are also low on depth and feeding freshman, projects, and walkons into the line up. These guys are making lemonade given the lemons they were presented with. Im not predicting anything crazy, but I wont scoff at the SOS either.

According to this we'll be 7-9 in the conference, and that's assuming we don't pick off any of the higher rated RPI teams at home. I think that would be good a solid year.

Oh.......we get the point. In fact......it seems there is a "nothing special" thread after almost every win. Most fans make excuses why their team loses.....here at ISU.....not only did we discover crap can actually run uphill during the McDermott era.....we have people making excuses why we are winning. Relax.......? Trust me....at 13-2....we're high-high!

Thanks for pointing out my punctuation error. I don't care who is posting or thinking we are going to make the NCAA tournament. I posted this for those people and also to show statistically how good or bad the teams we have played are. That's it. A lot of people look at the fact that we have 13 wins they don't look at who those wins came against. So therefore I showed everyone.

Re: A realistic look at our 13-2 Record

Being listed as the 7th team in Big 12 is good enough to have a small amount of talk about the NCAA tournament.
Kenpom has ISU 45th, and Sagarin 46th.

    It beats being 7-7.

If you would have told me at the beginning of the season we would win 20 games given the current roster and a 1st year coach with no head coaching experience, I would have laughed in your face. Now it seems very possible. LOVE THIS TEAM!
