    Re: ISU's newest recruit

Good story, but still very sad. Bill is a great guy.

    Re: ISU's newest recruit

This is my niece. I posted about her back in April. The team and Bill have been outstanding, as has the whole ISU family. She's doing great!! They went back to Memphis a few weeks ago for her second post treatment checkup. On the first visit, there was noticable shrinkage. The tumor remained stable on the 2nd visit which was encouraging to the doctors. They've really made her feel a part of the team.

    Re: ISU's newest recruit

SplitIdentity posted a news story about members of the Iowa football team going to the hospital during the Insight Bowl, and was incredulious when many CF poster chided him. For good reason.

Iowa State athletes do this all the freaking time but when has it ever been publicized? Rarely ever. Why? Because ISU does not make a big deal of it. The reason ISU athletes do this sort of thing is not for the publicity, but to make a difference.

Still, I would like to see a television station, or the "Rag"ister pick this story up.

Watch Channel 5 news Sunday night. John Walters is picking her story up!

Exactly. ISU does it for the difference it makes in others and themselves. That's why you might see a story a month or two later, usually focusing on the person/people being helped and to let the rest of the Cyclone family know.

Schools like Iowa do it to make a difference in their image, and will publicize it whenever they can.

    Re: ISU's newest recruit

It seemed there were two little girls at the bench before the NDSU game - was that she and her sister?

Thanks for the update! Good to hear that things are at least stable.

This is true. When I was playing under Coach Mac every Friday before a home game he would take players that volunteered to the hospital in Ames and visit the patients for an hour or so.

Awe! This is so adorable! It made me cry. This girl deserves to be treated like a princess. I am so glad Iowa State welcomed her into their team. :) She and her family will be in my prayers.
    Go State!

Her and her twin brother are usually out there, but they do an honorary captain thing too. That's probably who you saw.
