Baby back ribs if eating big, otherwise BBQ pork sandwich.

Choffee shake to go for dessert.

How many on the board went to Hickory Park in their old location in the small block building on East Lincoln Way. We started there in middle 70's on Sunday nites when food service was closed at the dorm.

And plenty of leftovers! That made for a nice lunch the next day at work....but man can it make a guy feel sick walking out - way too much to eat and no containment to stop eating!

A thread like this at 10:30 in the morning for those not in Ames is just cruel.

Can't believe no one has mentioned the Saucy Southerner. My favorite, and the cheapest thing on the menu.

Wow, we actually got to 22 posts before someone decided to start trolling in this thread about how Battles is so much better than Hickory Park...

I always get the same thing: 1/4 lb cheese and bacon hickory on white with a side of cheese balls. Then for dessert a chocolate malt to go. Love me some Hickory Park. I personally don't understand the people that bag on the place. As long as you don't go in expecting Gates or something like that, you'll never be disappointed with HP. When you have a family of 4 and everyone gets something that they like plus dessert all for around $30, how can you beat that? Damn near couldn't go to BK for that price.
I've only been to HP a handful of times, but I don't really think it's any cheaper than most places. My wife, our 3-year old and I were there a few months back, and our total expense counting tax and tip was over $30. And our daughter got a free dessert since it was her birthday. I don't recall ordering anything really outrageous either, a couple sandwiches, cheeseballs, and we each got a dessert I think.

Anyway, IMO that's too much to spend on pretty average food. We could have probably gone to Culver's and got the same quantity and quality of food for about 1/2 what we spent at HP.

My problem with Hickory Park isn't the food, its that it is too noisy inside to carry on a conversation with anyone.

    Battles does have good bbq

It's not that I out and out hate Hickory Park, but it's not BBQ food. It's a grill for the most part, and the attempts at actual BBQ are pretty crappy. The meat is usually fairly tough and dry. They do have some of the better onion rings I've ever had though.

Also, why the hell is this in women's basketball?
