    Prins' monster performance paces Cyclones

    Fanatics,

Here's my recap from tonight's 80-51 victory over North Dakota State.

    http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/basketball/prins-breakout-game-paces-iowa-state

How about that Anna Prins? Whoa. The sophomore absolutely dominated inside with 22 points and nine rebounds. It was by far her best game of the season.

Can Prins bring the same intensity on Saturday against Brittney Griner and Baylor? Iowa State certainly hopes so.

Thanks Ian. It should be an interesting Big 12 season. The league is loaded.

Re: Prins' monster performance paces Cyclones

This team needs Anna to do that CONSISTENTLY! There are going to be nights where the 3 ball is not falling and they'll need her and Pop to do the scoring inside. Seems like Anna will have a big game then be practically non-existent the next so hopefully a game like this can get her back on track.

Re: Prins' monster performance paces Cyclones

So...what was the "monster" part of Anna's performance? Ten blocks? Her stat line was compiled in 22 minutes? Something else you didn't mention? Or are you just prone to exaggeration?

A sterling performance, yes. "Monster", I don't think so.

It's too bad we couldn't just combine Pop's toughness and Prins shooting touch into 1 player. They are like opposite's of each other, each do something well that you wish the other player could do too.

Can you lay out the guidelines for verbiage on performance? I just want to make sure I get it correct.

So far we know the only correct way is:

    "monster" > "sterling"

Aclone, were you at the game last night?

Anytime you can set a new career-high in points (22) in 20 minutes, that's pretty dang good. Prins also grabbed nine rebounds and played much, much stronger around the basket.

She played a whopping six minutes in the second half.

That was my first question as well. I watched on Clone Zone, and she completely tore apart NDSU. She made her first six shots (and they were AGGRESSIVE shots) and set the tone early.

Fennelly said he wanted to keep her in longer but felt it wasn't fair to NDSU the way she was playing after the game got out of reach.

Thanks, Mred. It was hard to even recognize Prins in the first half, right? She was going up STRONG and toward the hoop. Great to watch and hopefully it continues!

I believe at one point in the game Prins and NDSU were tied at 16 points apiece.

Yep, I just checked and you are correct. That was when Anna made a pair of free throws with 6:36 left in the half to make the score Iowa State 32, ND State 16. Prins had 16 by herself.

I remember Anna coming out of the game after the two makes with a huge smile on her face.

Reading the reply to Aclone lexicon query, I think it was not only "monster" but as recent history shows it was also out-of-character for Prins. She seemed to be the sweet tall girl that couldn't dominate of recent. Glad Anna to hear is fit, fiery and ready to play or at least capable of such.

You surely must have not been at the game! Or, if you were, you must have been sleeping. Your attempt to downplay her performance is completely out of line.
Get to the game or wake up or both.

Re: Prins' monster performance paces Cyclones

    Alright guys, let's play nicely.

My headline for the story I wrote is, "Prins' breakout game paces Cyclones" which is probably a better description of her performance. I changed the thread title for some reason after a long night :).

The most important thing is that Anna is playing well just in time for Big 12 play and Brittney Griner.

I hope she holds her own with Griner. Just watch out for the right hook.
