    Raiders dismiss Cable

They announced they won't pick up the option for him to return next season.

I understand the guy had some off-field issues with personnel, but I don't think he was doing a bad job there at all. Getting them to their first non-losing record in eight years is no small task.

    Re: Raiders dismiss Cable

The Raiders job is so complicated. Al Davis controls EVERYTHING. Cable will be somewhere whenever NFL is playing again.

    Re: Raiders dismiss Cable

It's disappointing as he led them to their first decent season in a long time. Rumor is, Al was scared of losing Hue Jackson to the 9ers or another team and has already named him as coach. In fact there is already an article about it on SFgate.com. If this is true, as a Raider fan, I don't mind it. The players loved Cable but he didn't always make the wisest decisions. IMO nothing will change much if they just promote their OC.

    Re: Raiders dismiss Cable

I'm not a Raiders fan by any stretch of the word, but didn't they sweep their division and have their best season since Calahan drove their Conference championship team into the ground? I thought they were headed in the right direction for a change.

    Re: Raiders dismiss Cable

IMO when Al Davis finally does die. the Raiders organization will be 10x better off right now, al controls everything. I think it was warren sapp who said something about it. along the lines of its 3rd and whatever. A phone rang. Warren said we're gonna pass it here, it was al on the phone saying what plays to call. don't know if that is right just what Warren Sapp said so tifwit

I wouldn't have fired him. The Raiders need some continuity for heaven sake. Cable sounds like a troubled guy off the field but on the field the Raiders aren't a joke anymore for the first time in about 7 years.

Typical Al Davis. That franchise is ****ed as long as he's cogent.

I love the move!!!!!!!!! Everytime Oakland get's the ball somewhat rollin Davis screws it up. Even if they hire Jackson they will take a step back imo. Bravo!

I agree. Cable is let go but yet Marvin Lewis keeps his job. What a joke.

    Re: Raiders dismiss Cable

I'm sure his record out of the division didn't help. Plus, there were some bad losses in there. Of their losses, only two are playoff teams.

    Tennessee 38-13
    Arizona 24-23
    Houston 31-24
    San Francisco 17-9
    Pittsburgh 35-3
    Miami 33-17
    Jacksonville 38-31
    Indianaplois 31-6
