Too many non-conference home games hurt recruiting?

Listening to the radio, they were disussing non-conference scheduling and how playing certain teams from areas you want to recruit is big. When I relate that to ISU we play very few games outside of Hilton or the state of Iowa for that matter. Since we don't seem to land too many bigtime Iowa kids should we be looking at playing mid-majors out east?

I know we are doing the tourney thing next year and we did the Virginia game.

Nobody else is playing a bunch of non-conference road games. I don't think it plays that big of a role overall.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

Wins matter the most- playing at home is fine. I would not mind seeing ISU drop the local teams in favor of series with teams where we recruit.

I don't know of an area that Fred is recruiting hard. It seems as though he is all over getting kids. I like the New York/Big East talent, so I wouldn't mind marque match ups with Syracuse, Marquette, Providence type teams. This is all going forward I didn't mind the schedule this year giving the state of the program.

so far he's gotten kids from minnesota, texas, new york, wisconsin, kansas, oregon, iowa, new hampshire, maryland, plus the 5 transfers. i'd say it's not hurting us at all.

Agreed. Most of the road games for other teams at our level come from playing in tournaments, not as much playing at other schools. We'll reportedly be at South Padre next year, so theres that.

Juco, Prep Schools, and transfers are where we have gotten kids so far but I would say in time we will need to put a solid core recruiting base somewhere.

Re: Too many non-conference home games hurt recruiting?

We got a commitment and are recruiting 2 others from the New York area. One visited this past weekend.

We obviously can't rely on NY talent but having a mini pipeline would be wonderful.

Winning is the best recruiting tool...aside from cash.

Were recruiting NY hard for 2012, it's quite obvious that Fred wants a pipeline from there.

Because it doesnt make a program look bad when it plays mid-majors on the road.

Re: Too many non-conference home games hurt recruiting?

We are going to lose non-conference games next year anyway when you go to round robin scheduling. You look at next years schedule you already have on the schedule:

    -Iowa (home)
    -UNI (home)
    -Drake (Drake)
    -South Padre x 2
-Virginia ???? (home) if this is a home and home series

If this is the case, there are 1/2 your NC games for next year. You only have six or seven depending on UVA, so you want to play as many at home as possible.

It's not where you play, it's where your game is being played...on TV. A big thing that helps recruiting is getting on TV.

I'm thinking that game against UNI that was broadcast by a family of nuclear gerbils really brought in the big guns for us.
