    If Auburn wins the NC...

... would ISU be the only team in the state to have either a current or former head coach win a National Championship in either football or basketball?

Lute Olson won a NCAA BB title.

Possibly even if Auburn loses. Johnny Majors is already a former head football coach with a national championship (Pitt in '76, also the year that former head basketball coach was the runner-up with his Michigan squad).

As far as former coaches go, Johnny Majors got a title at Pitt.

    edit: beat to it.

Didn't Iowa finish ranked #1 in some poll one year in football?

Back in the 50's when college football had like 4 different national champions a year. They probably won the DM Register rankings and were rewarded one.

Re: If Auburn wins the NC...

Out of the 16 polls they had in 1959 LSU won 15 of the polls and Iowa won one. Thus giving them a national title. So I will lay claim to the poll that says we had the best college basketball team in 2000 so I award ISU a national title!

Re: If Auburn wins the NC...

Lute Olson won a title at Arizona in 1998 or so. Also, I think Iowa was claimed NC in football in the 1950's in one poll, but i'm too lazy to verify that.

That said, Auburn has been my 2nd favorite team since the days of Bo Jackson in the mid 1980's. I know it's against the norm on this board, but I'm really hoping they win Monday.
