Can we make more roster additions?

I'm not sure how the NCAA rules work. How many more players can CFH add to the roster in midseason? Can he schedule an open tryout for students when they come back to campus next week?
I don't imagine he would find any diamonds in the rough, but there could be a couple intramural all stars or former high school basketball players on campus that could help fill out the bench and provide some practice bodies.

Help fill out the roster, yes...extra practice bodies? Not so much.

You have to remember that we have 5 players who are currently red shirting due to transfer regulations (Allen, Babb, White, Booker, and Lamb)

Might a senior who isn't going to play pro football be interested in playing basketball during his final year?

They might, I'm just saying that we really don't need any more practice bodies with the 5 redshirts, 2 new walkons, plus Petie does some practice stuff as well. That's 8 guys capable of running the practice squad.

I doubt the university wants to have to pay for extra guys to travel with the team the rest of the year, unless they find that 1 diamond in the rough, or a 7 footer walking around campus.

I bet if every male student tried out there'd be at least one guy who could hack it in the Big 12. Maybe.

Back in the day (95-99) my roommate was an undergrad in engineering. He was 6'4" and a great shooter, average speed (too slow to be a good guard and too short to be a good forward) and decent ups (reverse two-handed dunk). Additionally, he had offers from Valpo and Harvard (or whatever they do in place of actual schollies in the ivy league) before hurting his knee his senior year of HS. Instead of getting it fixed, he played into the state tourney and won the championship and came to ISU on an academic schollie. He was (still is) the most competitive ****** I know. He could have walked on and maybe gotten some garbage minutes for ISU even with the bum knee.

I think that is about as good as a walk on from the student population could do. Garbage minutes.

Re: Can we make more roster additions?

I would think if there was someone currently on campus either in a sport or a just a normal student that could help out we would have already given them a try-out since we were already thin on depth to begin with? Let's hope the only time we see the 2 FB guys this year are in situations the game is already decided because I doubt either of them are going to be good enough to play meaningful minutes when McKnight can't even crack the rotation right now.

If it wasn't for the knee injury Arnuad would probably be on the team.

I'm pretty sure AA was going to give the NFL a shot, he still might.

That was crazy that they only had 6 players play last night. Big props to CFH and those 6. I know it was just Northern Illinois, but that is still very impressive to have 6 guys log that many minutes and pull out the win. CFH definitely has these guys working their butts off.

That may be true, but it's better than playing 4-on-5, God forbid..

I believe, though I may be wrong, that if a schollie football player plays on the BB team, it counts as a schollie for the BB team as well, toward the limit. Thus the reason the two guys who joined the team are football walkons. Therefore, I would imagine this limits athletes from other sports. I had a couple roomates when I was at ISU in student apartments that played JC BB and they were both 6' 5" guys with pretty good speed. They tried to walk on in 1983, but were not good enough. Both started in JC.

    This +

I think if this was doable you'd see a LOT more basketball schools with an extra guy or two who are there on football scholarships but never see the grass of the field in a game. (Duke)

I do not think it counts towards the basketball limit. There have been way too many football players that have played BB around the nation.
