    Reason for No Sed Johnson

If I had to guess why Sed isn't playing for the basketball team it would be because he is on scholarship with the football team.

If I remember the rules correctly, you can only have so many scholarship players on your team. Whether those scholarships come from the football program or the basketball program, you are limited on the number of scholarship players that you can have.

I may be wrong but that is my guess.

I thought he was transfering from ISU

Or, he just doesn't want to and would rather focus on football.
I don't think the scholarship thing is correct. If he has a football scholarship, that counts for football. He should be able to walk on and play basketball without wasting a basketball scholarship.
I don't think an academic scholarship counts towards your scholarship number.

The way I remember it is that if you play multiple sports, the scholarship counts against the sport with the least number of scholarships available.

I thought it was the other way around. If a scholarshipt athlete played football, it counted against football. Otherwise you'd have football programs that got people Track or Golf or Swimming scholarships and use for football.

Wasn't there something to this effect in one of the new track facility threads? I seem to remember there being some sort of rule like bawbie stated to prevent using FB wide receivers in track and so-on.

Problem is that you see football players run track. Tim Dwight and Denard Robinson come to mind.

Actually, I think you may be wrong here. I remember in the 80's there was a minor dustup about Nebraska giving out track and swimming scholarships to football players in order to get more scholorships on the team, so some policies were put in place.

I'm not sure about accademic scholarships though. If I remember correctly, though, Ross Marsden was on an Acc. Scholarship.

    counted in football.

So, to summarize: If you have a scholarship and play football and another sport the scholarship goes against football. If you have a scholarship and play basketball and another sport (except football) the scholarship goes against basketball. The NCAA actually made a rule that makes sense!

And that rules out the scholarship reason for Sed. I'm betting CPR said no way.

Was Paul Shirley on academic scholarship when he first came too?

Re: Reason for No Sed Johnson

It definitely would not be a basketball scholarship issue because we should have 1 open with Phillips leaving. I'm guessing the reason would be CPR didn't want to have him risk injury or possibly Sed just doesn't have the desire to play BB right now.
