    Water Softner Recommendations

I need to get a water softner for the house we just moved into. Looks like Home Depot, Lowes, Sears, etc all carry similar models in the $350-$400 range. Looking for one with on cycle based on water usage as we have private septic and want to minimze salt usage. Anyone have any good or bad expereince they want to share? TIA

    Re: Water Softner Recommendations

After doing research and learning that most big-box softeners are garbage, I bought this and installed it myself. I've been very happy with it.

Fleck 5600 STX Replaces 5600 SE Digital Metered Water Softener, Home Water Softener, Buy, Compare

A little higher than your range, but there's no tax, free shipping, and a free bypass valve.

No doubt Kinetico...no electricity, meters the water so you have no timers or wasted salt.

    Re: Water Softner Recommendations

I installed this guy last year:
Sears: Online department store featuring appliances, tools, fitness equipment and more

Kenmore's aren't the highest quality (I've taken one apart, it is all plastic) so it will have a shorter life than more expensive softeners, but it has worked well for us. The big reason I got it is because it was a good deal (20% off plus bing cashback) and it dropped right in place the of the old one, so I didn't need to do any plumbing

This is also what I've found. I ordered one from CAI Technologies online and it has worked so far. As for Kinetico, great if youve got a lot of extra cash. Same with Culligan. Quite pricey.

Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving.

    Re: Water Softner Recommendations

I also suggest kinetico. Like others have suggested it will cost you more but well worth every penny. In my opinion you won't find a better more reliable softner.

My Dad's cousin works for Kinetico in Des Moines. Sometimes you can get a used one. But they offer good service.

Kinetico is worth it in the long run. Probably at least twice the lifespan of some of the electrical versions. Just need to make sure you take it with you if you move.
