Can we PLEASE put to rest the myth...

... that teams like TCU and Boise St don't belong in the conversation for the National Title?

All my Hawkeye friends always tell me how the Hawks would just destroy Boise St or TCU. The fact is... they wouldn't. Get over it. TCU and Boise St are VERY good football teams and would do just fine in your "awesome" Big 10 conference that went 0-5 today and just got destroyed.

I see what you're saying... but beating a big 10 team doesnt exactly add much. Nobody was saying the big 10 should have a team in the title game either.

Wouldve loved to see TCU against an SEC team (Auburn, Alabama, or LSU) or Oregon though.

No doubt they can compete with the nation's best. The problem is that under the system we have, it's hard to compare their body of work to the rest of the nation, so it's hard to justify they should be in a National Title game.

Re: Can we PLEASE put to rest the myth...

I have no problem putting them in the conversation my problem is that they don't week in and out play a tough schedule they have maybe 3 or 4 tough games. I think TCU this year was worthy of the talk because they went out and played Oregon st. and baylor in the non conference. I don't like it when Boise says no one will play them. That's wrong teams will play them but Boise wants 1 for 1 and most BCS teams won't do it.

I have TCU connections and have watched most of their games the last five years. TCU would have waxed the Hawkeyes both this year and last and it wouldn't have been close. Last year's TCU squad was even faster than this year's team.

Re: Can we PLEASE put to rest the myth...

I wonder if we'll be getting any comments from Delaney after this one. Over the past month he's been pretty blunt about his belief that non-AQ teams don't deserve the ight to play in BCS bowls.

As far as the NC game and non-AQ teams go, I think that it ends up with your criteria for the selection. Are you picking the best two teams, or the two teams that had the best season? If you want the two best teams it shouldn't matter what conference they are in. That's why we have human polls and don't base it entirely on computers.

I think this years TCU team could have been competitive in the Big Ten and Bit Twelve, however this years Boise State team could not have been but past years probably could have.

Also the random hawk fans strike again...wearing Iowa stuff behind a UConn sign shown just before kickoff...

Re: Can we PLEASE put to rest the myth...

Myth should have ended when Utah became the second team in history to go a season with no team getting within two touchdowns.

Then it also should have ended when Utah beat the crap out of an Alabama team that was #1 most of the year just a few years ago.

Then it also should have ended tonight when TCU beat one of the hottest teams in the nation in #5 Wisconsin.

MWC 3-1 in BCS games with lone loss to an undefeated Boise State team.

WAC 2-1 in BCS games with the one loss being a Hawaii team that probably didn't belong.

So you have 7 non-AQ BCS teams now. 6 times the non-AQ team kicked @$$

Anyone arguing they don't belong is a moron. Meanwhile Notre Dame is 0-3 in their BCS games and a team ranked #54 in computer polls is playing the Fiesta Bowl with an auto bid right now.

Iowa has great marketing. Didnt you see the hawk shirt behind the bench when ISU played Virginia? I think its all a big marketing scheme.

he's still right to an extent. the big bowls BECAME the big bowls through their affiliations with the big conferences and the money that comes with inviting their fanbases and large tv viewing audiences to their games. The bowls, given a choice, will almost always select teams from BCS conferences even without a BCS system, due to it making more sense financially.

Re: Can we PLEASE put to rest the myth...

TCU and Utah will never be left out in the cold if they run table from now on (unless there's 2 other AQ undefeateds with better SOS). No reason to complain.

If someone had run the table in the Big East, ACC, and probably even the Big 12 they wouldn't be in the title either.

I don't buy the argument that playing in the Big 10 would wear you down. TCU wore down Wisky tonight, the Big 10's biggest and strongest team, not the other way around like the announcers kept saying was going to happen. TCU's speed wore Wisky down.
