    Big 10 bowl connection

Pretty big deal that the Big 10 is playing in all 4 of the games currently taking place - and they have one more team playing later today. There is only one game today the Big 10 won't have a team on the field.

Our conference absolutely must beg, borrow and steal to climb the bowl connection ladder. Regardless of the hate toward the Big 10 and even if they don't win a game today - you have to hand it to that conference for being a step ahead in this.

It's always bothered me that the Big XII wasn't in more New Years Day bowls.

Proving yet again how meaningless the "January bowl game" mantra from the Iowa fans is. Almost half of their conference members are playing today.

Because it's meaningless to play on a day in which so many are lounging on the couch (recovering from NYE) to watch CFB?

Got to give the Big 10 credit, They have been in the fore front in promoting thier teams/ Tv deals/ and bowl alliance's to perfection. While the Big 12 is stuck with Beebe who has done nothing but hurt the big 12 minus OU and UT.

This is how it's always been. I don't really know what the conference can do to change it.

The Big Ten has all the tradition and money behind them with their large public universities.

One could also say it may not be a good thing to have 4 of your teams playing at the same time even if it is on a day everyone is sitting and watching from home.

Clearly the conference was lucky to start a relationship with the Rose Bowl 100 years ago (or whenever).

I'm of a different mindset since I watch every bowl game anyway, no matter when its played. Whether its New Year's Day, New Year's Eve, two days after Christmas...doesn't matter. My point was simply that prancing around proclaiming how great a program is when they make a bowl game that happens to be played in January is ridiculous, especially when you are in the Big 10.

I agree with this as well. Seems like you would want to spread out your conference members' bowl games to maximize exposure.

    Wasn't a thread about Iowa...

I watch almost all bowl games too. But not all do - I'd bet my house on the fact NYD bowl game ratings far, far exceed the ratings for any game prior to NYD.

If Florida would stop giving the ball away the Big Ten could be 0-4 with three blowout losses so far today.

ISU finished in front of Texas Tech in the Big 12 and Tech just beat a 7-5 Big Ten team. They're overrated, as always.

Even in an obvious down year, the Big 12 is still as good as the Big Ten.

Michigan State and Missouri were equally exposed this bowl season, neither is anywhere near a top ten team. The only reason Mich State is 3 spots about Mizzou is Big Ten media bias, they should both be somewhere around 20-25.

    Re: Big 10 bowl connection

    Big 10 vs Big 12
Rose (BCS) vs Fiesta (BCS) - Push
    Capital1 vs Cotton - Big 12
    Outback vs Alamo - Push
Gator vs Insight - Big 10
Insight vs Holiday - Big 12
    Texas vs Texas - Push
    TicketCity vs Pinstripe - Push
    Pizza vs TicketCity/Military - Big 12

Just because the Big 10 bowls are on January 1st doesn't make them better. The Big 12 just needs to get some better lower tier bowls (Liberty, Independence, Tangerine, Sun, etc.) The top teir bowls between the 2 conferences are pretty much the same.

    Re: Big 10 bowl connection

The competitive importance of January 1st bowls have been meaningless since the BCS started. However, it is all about the great bowl tie-ins the B10 has; thanks to the number of TVs in their region. This says more for the conference, than is does about the individual teams playing today.

Seriously, they have 4 teams playing in "regular" bowls on Jan. 1, which means more than a 4th of the conference plays on Jan. 1. Add another B10 team BCS bowl on January 1 and you have 5 teams playing on Jan 1; like today.

Now, if the B10 has two in the BCS game and one of those in the title game, like in past years, you could have the 3-6 placed teams in the B10 playing on on Jan. 1.

Again, I knew Jan 1 was meaningless, but it didn't realize that the 6th best team, out of 11 in the B10 can play on Jan. 1. While at most two B12 teams can assuming a Jan. 1 BCS game, thanks to the new Ticket City Bowl.

Some B10 fans can crow all they want, but Jan. 1 games are meaningless. It is just a sign of great bowl ties-ins, which I will gladly acknowledge. If anything tout the position of the conference and not the competitive significance of the games.

"I'm proud to lead this program and this team in whatever we do. Whether it's a community service project, or through practice or winning a bowl game, but you don't do that without the kids believing and being all in, and going out there and accomplishing all [of] the goals and expectations that we set." - Coach Paul Rhoads
