Hardest working ISU MBB team I've seen in a long, long time

Last night's effort would match any team in the country. You look at the box score and see that Virginia shot 20-62 from the floor and 3-24 from 3pt. Without seeing the game, you'd think "well, they must have just had an off night". That had something to do with it, but our defensive pressure was crazy from everyone on the floor. We were in the face of every single shot. Think of how bad we were defending the 3 the last couple years. I think we may have been the worst in the B12 statistically.

Man, I'm enjoying this season. And, by all appearances, Fred looks like he's been coaching for 10 years. If you get a chance to record the games, go back and watch how his team looks at him during timeouts. That tells you all you need to know about how his players are responding to him.

Several times on saw a single ISU guy get a rebound from 3 Virginia guys. Never seen so many guys hit the floor to save a possession.

Those rebounds were amazing. The number of times our guys went to the floor to grab a ball away from 2+ UVA players was fantastic. I'm betting a lot of that hustle has to do with our scout team. The guys would have to really scramble in practice to get the balls.

That is why, no matter how we finish, I love what is going on with this team. As long as they go all out, you can't fault them.

Re: Hardest working ISU MBB team I've seen in a long, long time

In the past two games, we've seen JVB try to dive to the floor two games ago and actually making the dive (twice on a possession) last night.

Good point, OP! This team will not lose because they didn't show up and make the effort.

Re: Hardest working ISU MBB team I've seen in a long, long time

I think Jake gets a ton of credit for this. It is the way he plays, when you see someone do that, it makes you want to do it..............or you look really selfish. A person that hustles can cover other shortcomings in their individual game and still get playing time.

If you don't think every day is a good day, try missing one.

They play like they practice...and that is hard! I said it after the practice watch for Cyclone Alley that these guys played hard, diving on the floor, hustle plays, etc. They practice with intensity and it has shown on the floor now! I'm extremely excited for what the rest of the season has in store for us

I wouldn't be so sure about this season's numbers until we go out and play some real teams. When ISU's 16th game of the season, against Nebraska, is by far the toughest game of the season, it says something about the level of competition.

Still, this team is definitely more fun to watch than anything McDermott ever farted out. I'm legitimately excited to see ISU compete in the Big 12, and I wouldn't have said that two months ago.

It does seem that the players are trying harder for FH than they did for GM...I think it's because they are playing more relaxed. The same thing is happening in Iowa City...A lot of the same players as last year, but they just seem to be playing better all around.

To the OP, take that win with a grain of salt because Virginia is a bad team. They were predicted to be bad and then they lost their best player.

I really enjoyed FH as a player and I was lucky enough to see him play a little bit in highschool. I really do hope that he has success, but I will root against him 1 time a year! Good luck the rest of the way!

Nice post. One thing though, and I can't believe you're going to hear this on CF, but I wouldn't rate Nebraska as a tougher game than Iowa, no matter what happen, with the rivalry and all.
