Harry Potter & The Deathly Hollow vs. Tangled

Thinking of taking my 7,5,4 year olds to the Matinee this afternoon. I think the kids want to watch Harry Potter, but Tangled is also an option.

I've heard the latest Harry Potter might not be the best for kids to watch. Parents who have seen it, what do you think?

Haven't seen Harry Potter, any of them for that matter, but we saw Tangled with my 3 year old and it was actually a pretty cute movie, we all enjoyed it.

Go to Tangled. I'm not a parent, but HP7 is pretty dark, especially for the young ones.

I haven't seen either movie (yet), however, I have read Deathly Hallows - I'd say outside of Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets none of the Harry Potter books/movies are really age-appropriate for most children that young, especially later in the series when it gets much darker and violent (I read online they really discussed slapping PG-13 on the later movies, but in the end kept it at PG, thinking most parents would already know what's in those movies).

If it were my kids, knowing what's in Deathly Hallows, I wouldn't let them see it, at least not in the theater. I'd have to know the maturity of my 10-year old child (she's not that old yet) before I took her to see it in the theater. For theater watching, between the two, I'd take them to see Tangled - you can't go wrong with taking young children to see a Disney animated flick without prior knowledge of what's in it.

Re: Harry Potter & The Deathly Hollow vs. Tangled

The Harry Potter books/movies matured along with the original readers/viewers. This last one is pretty mature and very dark. 7 year old might be able to handle it, but I doubt your 4 year old and 5 year old wouldn't be scared by it.

Another vote for Tangled. Wife and I took our 8 and 3 year olds to it and we all enjoyed it.

Disclaimer: I've never watched any of the HP movies, so I can't compare.

I haven't seen Tangled, but HP7 sucked IMO. (movie not book)

The latest Harry Potter strikes me as too dark for a five year old.

Just showed the previews to the kids and they all voted for Tangled.

You may not be able to find HP7 in theatres for a matinee either. All i've seen is night viewings in the two theatres i go to here. (Wynnsong and Jordan Creek)

Seen them both, go to Tangled. I'd say this HP is a tad too dark for your 5 and 4 year olds.

Re: Harry Potter & The Deathly Hollow vs. Tangled

Just got back from Tangled. Wow, what a great movie! Disney still has the touch. It's been a while since I've seen a good musical and this one was a delight. 3D is neat, but not sure it's all it's cracked up to be. The kids loved it.

I'm going to go back and see Harry Potter tommorow. I may take the 7 year old with.

This last HP was the worst movie of all of them so far.

Ive heard the Tangled movie was funny by some of my friends with kids.
