    Re: 2011 Banished Words List

I agree with most of those, especially "epic" and "fail", but what else are you going to use for "going viral"? That's pretty much a perfect analogy and an accurate succinct term for what it means.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

Maybe you are just looking at it all wrong. Try thinking of this:

    Re: 2011 Banished Words List

You know what I'd like to banish? Lists of banned words compiled by questionable academic institutions. Especially ones that don't even rise to the level of having "directional" words in their letterhead.

They're named after a Lake, for God's sake. Do we take linguistic advice from professors at Okoboji University or Lake Itasca Tech? No, we do not.

    Re: 2011 Banished Words List

Not that I'm against banning words. Hell, if I hear anyone within 30 feet of me use the words "synergy" or "networking", I have to fight back the burning urge to drag them out to the parking lot and hook their junk to my car battery. I just think that we should wait for someone with better credentials to present this sort of list. Maybe an associate professor of English at DMACC?

People who use the words "Epic" and "Fail" are usually tools/social retards.
"I'm just sayin" is incredibly annoying.

    Re: 2011 Banished Words List

I don't have as much of a problem with the use of the words as I do with the context they're used in.

Making fun of an armed robber who locked the keys in his getaway car, had to hijack a Ford Fiesta for his getaway, and then had the dye pack explode in his crotch - causing extremely painful scarring? That would be an EPIC FAIL-worthy event.

Some random dude in a blog comment section failing to close an italics tag? EPIC FAIL is a bit of overkill here, yes? Plain old FAIL? Maybe, but nowhere near EPIC status.

It's like when I hear overexaggeration taken to a ridiculous extreme. "Oh My GOD, that line at Subway yesterday noon was JUST LIKE THE BATAAN DEATH MARCH! I thought I was gonna die of hunger right there on the spot."

It's things like this that keep CYlent Bob from carrying a firearm in public, IYKWIMAITTYD.

Is it bad if you use a majority of these words in your everyday vernacular....

    Add one more: "That said..."

Watch TV news and opinion shows. "That said" crops up everywhere, on every channel.
