If you could know one thing...

If you could know the truth of one sports event from whenever, what would it be? Examples would be wanting to know if Barry really has taken steroids or if Tinsley did in fact shave points or wanting to know the extent of Michael Vick's dog fighting scandel.

I decided not to make this a poll since there are so many answers. Feel free to be serious, funny or creative! For those of us working all day, we'll take anything to read!

If the Uprights of the Independence Bowl stadium were 5 feet higher-Would the ball have bounced in or out?
I would have liked to have a headset to listen in on the conversations between McCarney and Cotton during games.

It's a great question. We happened to have perfect seats for it - kinda. We were in the first row on the goal line - the side of the field where the action happened.

Clearly he did cross the goal line. The question is though, did it do it inbounds?

In one report, I thought I read the goal line in college ran infinitely. Meaning, a player could leap from the 3 yard line and land out-of-bounds, beyond the goal line - and score. Sure looked like that's what Seneca did to us.

In the NFL, I thought the rule was the same. However, you always see players being required to get the ball inside the pylon - so perhaps the rule is different in college or I just don't understand it 100% correctly.

Being a Falcons fan I know this statement isn't correct. I've seen Vick score many a touchdown on scramble. What the NFL rule is, at least, is the ball has to cross the goal line. - doesn't matter whether the ball is in bounds or out of bounds - because the goal line is an infinite line. However, the body must land in bounds, otherwise the player is out of bounds. So, say Seneca is tiptoeing the out of bounds line, stays in bounds, knees touch at the one, and the ball crosses the goal line on the out of bounds side of the pylon, it's a touchdown.

Re: If you could know one thing...

I would love to see a movie about Larry Eustacy with every thing that happened between 1995-2005. Including The Shane Power incident, the pictures incident, and following him around on the road just to see how shady he really got.
I want the road to the Elite 8.

    I want Road trips
I want him and his wife going at it.

I want it all. I think it would be facinating.

I want to know what was going thru Wallace's mind during the scramble.

Re: If you could know one thing...

Did Paul Shirley charge or was it a blocking foul in the Michigan State Elite Eight game? It can't be both!!!

Followed up by - Would ISU have gone on to win the National title if it had been called a blocking foul?

That is incorrect as well. The body can land out of bounds and still be ruled a touchdown. For instance, if a player were to dive toward the pylon from the 2 yard line, as long as the ball crosses the plane of the goal line before he lands out of bounds, it is ruled a touchdown.

If this is in fact correct and the rule in college, Seneca scored on that play. We need someone with a damn rulebook!

Re: If you could know one thing...

I agree that it was a touchdown, but the official ruling was that his foot stepped out of bounds before he was able to lunge the ball over the goal line. I think if replay had been available at that time, it would have been overturned.
