    That had to be a real treat. I had an opportunity about 10 years ago to talk briefly with both Harmon and Mudcat Grant at a fund raiser for a local youth baseball group. Both were assume with the crowd and especially with the kids.

    My VERY FIRST baseball game (big leagues) was at the Met and I got to see Big K send one into the upper deck. Was a double header against the White Sox. Carew, Oliva, etc were all on that team.

    My all time favorite player. Any sport.
    I did get to meet him once at sports store opener. Hundreds filed in and out and I was about ten feet from the door when they said that's it- Harmon's got to go home sometime. Everybody left but my wife and I and about a half hour later Harmon asked who the guy was waiting outside in the cold all this time. They told us Harmon wanted to talk with us and so we were able to have a great conversation, took pictures with my wife and I, signed baseballs for us, the whole nine yards. He could not have been any nicer than hero I always dreamed he was as a 10 year old kid listening to Twins games on the radio 30 years earlier.


    Clone to the Bone with the up and coming IOWA STATE.

    Killer was great. I think every game I saw at the Met, Harm homered.

    I remember an old article in SPORT magazine about him. They called him The Fat Kid. One of the Toughest Outs in baseball. Sad to hear of his health problems.

    The Harmon Brewery in Tacoma, WA has a beer named the Harmon Killerbrew. I was talking to them about the name, but they were already well-versed in the former Twins slugger.


    Dean Wormer was wrong. Fat, drunk and stupid was a great way to go through college (all five years of it).
