    Corned Beef and Cabbage

Last night I picked up everything to make Corned Beef and Cabbage on New Years Eve.
My wife and her family have a tradition of doing it every year. I had never heard of it until marrying her but she is trying to convince me that it is a common tradition.

After a little internet research, I learned about the Corned Beef traditions for St Pats day, (makes sense) but only a couple blogs that mention it for New Years.

Does anyone else do this? If so, why?

No. For us it was always Oyster Stew and Potato soup.

I think you have been duped, brother.

I just got a Lobster Tail and Crab Legs at Aldi's last week. That's going to be my New Years traditions moving forward.

that's what I'm talking about! Fortunately, that is the traditional Christmas meal with her family. Along with boiled shrimp.

Didn't you know? Displaying any kind of culinary acumen is cause for automatic revocation of your man card. That's woman's work! You should be ashamed for even considering the thought of making corned beef and cabbage. Where is your pride, man?

The only New Years Eve tradition I've seen from my extended family is getting absolutely blasted drunk for the holiday.

Wait, people EAT on new years eve?
I've been doing it wrong all this time.
    :Jimlad:

In all seriousness however, I can't say I've heard of corned beef and cabbage for new years.

Oh yeah they do! Frozen, not fresh, but will work for me.

Alidi's is an interesting place. Lots of value food, but they actually have a nice selection of high end stuff too. Some of their European wines, cookies and cheeses are quite good.

I buy a lot there followed by Fareway. Hyvee or Target if I want more specialty items.

Anyway Lobster and Crab Legs for New Years for this family!

Sorry, but my mind just took that in an entirely different direction.
