    finally got my first tattoo...

does anyone have any suggestions for taking care of it while it's healing? from what i've been told so far, just don't scrub it or pick at it and use a light layer of lotion if/when it gets itchy.

just keep covering the area with neosporin (antibacterial cream) every day for a few days. It'll help it heal cleanly and with out scabs from the initial inking. It will also help prolong the color of the ink for a longer period of time.
Also, remember in the summer when exposing it, that this area is even more prone to sunburn, and to hit it with lotion as much as you can.

If you're lucky it will wear off. I hear it costs a lot to get them removed.

The Hawkeyes, who have lost six of their last seven games, were given a No. 11 seed and will be involved in one of the four first-round games by virtue of being one of the last four at-large teams to make the field. “It’s not a &%#$@%* play-in game!’’ McCaffery said when a reporter phrased it that way. McCaffery then hurled a bottle of G2 into the face of the reporter stating "you #$%*&@ idiot!".

My last tattoo I was introduced to wet-healing, keep dry for the first 48 hours, for the first week, you can wash the area but not direct water from the shower and let the area air dry followed by wrapping with suran(sp) wrap. After 7 days you can start not using the wrap and just using lotion. It seemed to work better than any other directions I have used.

Bag Balm works really well too. I will second the suggestion on the sun burning. I would try to keep it from even tanning if possible. None of mine have ever scabbed over and all I've ever really done is use the Bag Balm and keep them clean. Oh and don't walk around asking everyone if they want to see your new ink. It won't impact the tattoo but you'll look like a tool. Enjoy but be careful, they are addicting!

Re: finally got my first tattoo...

Lotion is key practically right out the gate.

After a couple application of antibacterial ointment over a couple hours, I go straight to lotion. I'll wash and cleanse it every few hours and add a very thin layer of ointment a couple times a day, but I lotion it a lot. If it starts to feel stiff and dry and it gets lotion.

Ive found the lotion keeps it from scabbing. A little crust on the tat isnt bad. They seem to lose color in the scab, so you must prevent those from forming. A ton of lotion is the way to go.

Thinking about picking up my third. Who's the best place to go in Ames?

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
