    Kindle question

Just got a Kindle 3.0 for Christmas, and went on Amazon to buy my first book (Lord of the Rings).

After purchasing, it says that the book will be wirelessly delivered through the whispernet to my Kindle. I don't have wireless though. Does it have to connect to wireless to get anything?

    Re: Kindle question

Evidently. I thought maybe I could download the books to my PC, and then drop them into the Kindle through USB.

Yes, you can download to your PC and then transfer via USB. I'm not exactly sure how as I use wireless at home. I'd suggest checking out on the Amazon site where you can administer your Kindle account.

    Re: Kindle question

Got it. Just had to go into "manage my Kindle" on Amazon, and switch the setting on the book to "deliver via computer". Thanks for the help!

Whispernet is Kindle's 3G wireless network. Buy a kindle with whispernet, and you get lifetime 3g access for it for free.

It only works in the US, I believe, though.

    Re: Kindle question

I got a Kindle myself today for Christmas and I am loving it already. Very user-friendly. One of the first books I got (a gift from my sister) is "Death to the BCS". Looking very forward to reading it from my brand new toy.

Yeah, I read every night, and turn the light very low to keep from bothering my wife. She got me a case for it that has a nice little light too, so I should be able to see better and still not disturb her.

I had never seen the graphics on them before today. Very cool, as it looks almost like the writing is printed on top of the screen. Hard to describe, but cool!

It uses cellular connections, 3G wireless. That's only for downloading ebooks, though.

I got my wife a Nook for Christmas. The original model, with the e-ink display, much nicer than an LCD display for long-term use, IMO. I also paid a LOT less, $90 for the 3G model around Black Friday.

Actually you can use the built in browser and surf the web. Granted its in black and white and far from quick, but it's convenient for checking emails etc while reading.

I've had my Kindle2 for over a year and I've used the web function numerous times.

    Re: Kindle question

The only thing that I don't like is that I can't write all over the pages like I usually do when I read a book.

Are you sure on that? One thing a good friend of mine really likes about his Kindle is that he can take notes with it.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

How is that possible without a writing utensil for the kindle? I've never seen one that has one, but again, I've only seen students using them.
