The Explorer sounds great to me. I don't really need seven seats but I could use them once a year and the safety features combined with the quietness are extremely impressive.

You might want to check out the Toyota Highlander.

I've always been a Chrysler guy, maybe GM, but I really like the 2011 F150's, especially the eco boos engines.

I'll confess I've been a fairly staunch Jap car buyer the last few years. But Ford is doing a lot of things right and they earned my admiration for turning their company around without taxpayer funding. I feel pretty strongly that my next car will be a Ford and may very well be an Explorer.

I love my 2002 Explorer and as long as Ford keeps making them the Explorer's will be the only personal vehicle I ever buy.

    Even through the unibody transition?

It's a fair risk moving from the body on frame, live rear axle, V8, etc. It will need a whole new type of buyer. With the Edge and the Flex already on board in house, Ford is really counting on the crossover segment to keep expanding. It is an Explorer in name only, it carries nothing over. Maybe that's a good thing.

    Re: 2011 Ford Explorer

When my current car dies which will hopefully be after college and I will have a job, I would be shocked if I bought something other than ford even if it's used. No buyout is a huge plus.

I was at Airventure when they unveiled the 2011 Explorer....it was pretty sweet how they did it!

I have a 1999 5 speed Ford Ranger 4x4 4 door and I love it. I'll get a 2011 (last model) or a few years older once the 99 dies. Until then, 129,000 mi and still going...

    Re: 2011 Ford Explorer

I had a 2000 Limited Explorer and never again will I buy a Ford. I bought it in 2002 with 25,000 miles. Loved all the toys and gadgets on it. But soon after the sub and back speakers stoped working. Sunroof got stuck open. I kept it for 3 years when I had to replace the transmission with only 80,000 miles on it. They rebuilt it at first and it failed. Replaced it and it failed. Then replaced it again with a brand new one. 5000 miles into the 3rd transmission the engine light came on. Traded it off for a 2003 Chevy truck the next day. Never missed it....

Wife has a Ford Escape. And if you Escape from that thing alive after an accident I think it would be a miracle. It currently has 130,000 miles, and it gets good gas mileage, but it is starting to nickel and dime us. Problem is we have no money to replace it.

    Never will buy a Ford.

    Re: 2011 Ford Explorer

I'd like to wait a few years and see how they hold up. Every Explorer that I've sat in used has been kind of a mess on the inside. 30-40K miles and the cheapness starts to show through.

    Re: 2011 Ford Explorer

I'm a GM guy through and through, but the Fords back seat in their new crew cab half tons is impressive. Will I ever buy one? No, because I will never be riding in the back seat so I don't really care about it. I also think Fords seem awfully cheap in how they are produced. I don't know if it's just visual or what but every work one I have driven they have just seemed cheap.

It's all snark from here on out
