    Rob Standard StL Offensive POY

In St. Louis visiting relatives, opened up the StL Post Dispatch, and see that they have named Rob Standard as their offensive POY.

Images: 2010 Fall High School Athletes of the year | Sports | St. Louis Post-Dispatch

'Chaminade running back Rob Standard is ready for the next step. He's done all he could possibly imagine at the high school level. The standout senior, who broke the St. Louis area career rushing record this season, will take his talent to Iowa State, where football will become an even bigger part of his life.

"That's what I've been waiting for", said Standard, who is 5' 10", 185lbs. "I think about it all the time. Why not do it all the time? My passion is football, and that's what I think about every day when I wake up. Every time when I'm sitting down I'm thinking about football and lifting weights and stretching and working out".

That helped Standard become the most accomplished running back to ever come out of St. Louis. In his four-year varsity career, including three as a starter, the Red Devil rushed for 7,799 yards and scored 98 touchdowns. In four seasons Standard had 33 games with 100+ yards rushing, 21 with 200+, eight with 300+, and one game with more than 400 yards. He scored at least one touchdown in his final 35 games.'

those are just ridiculously gaudy numbers, even if it is just high school ball. we've got quite a stable of RB's built up it seems. now we need some better blocking for them!

Is it just me, or could Standard come in as a slot receiver just to get him on the field? It seems like we need to get him PT in any way possible.

I wondered the same thing, but he only had one receiving TD this season. His HS team didn't look like they threw to him much, but the way he ran all over everyone maybe they preferred to just hand him the ball.

Was told the same high school as Marvin McNutt and Adrian Clayborn, but maybe the guy meant same conference. Pricey private school that has good football program. Otherwords, his stats were against very good competition in the St.L Metro. ISU was in early and beat late comers. Speed kills, another Shontrelle Johnson type with maybe a little more strength.

thats a great quote. there are lots of guys who are good at football but don't love the game. even in the NFL. Rob is a guy who has the tools and is willing to work to become the best he can be (from what it sounds like).

great to have him as a cyclone. i wish him nothing but the best!

What in the world makes you think that he won't be playing running back "just gto get him on the field"? How many proven thousand yard rushers do we have coming back, after all???

Congratulations to Robert on a phenomenal high school career, and looking forward to seeing what he can do in the Big 12. With his attitude I have no doubt he will be a great member of the Cyclone family.

Seriously? I just figured ISU was set at RB with Shontelle and Woody. I was just asking if he could play the slot if he didn't start at RB, ***hole.

I would be shocked if Standard didn't redshirt. If he did, then he could step in as the starter as a RS junior after SJ and JW graduate. Ideally.

Can't imagine it would take that long for him to compete for time. I imagine SJ will be the feature back next season but after that all bets are off. With Standard and SJ both here, I think Woody's role really becomes short yardage brusier and less of a breather guy.

Agreed but I would expect SJ to be the feature back for the rest of his college career with Woody being the bruiser to spell him, and then Hollis and White getting some carries as well. Standard would have to beat out White and Hollis as a RS freshman or sophomore when those players are juniors and seniors. That might be tough. But you never know, he could be an incredible talent very quickly, which would be awesome.
