The players are eligibile for the bowl game because the NCAA determined they did not receive adequate rules education during the time period the violations occurred, Lennon said.

Wow! That is awesome. I am surprised they are still eligible for the bowl game though. It's still a killer for the 2011 season.

The biggest piece of BS in this whole story is this:

The players are eligibile for the bowl game because the NCAA determined they did not receive adequate rules education during the time period the violations occurred, Lennon said.
Way to be "fair" NCAA. I wouldn't have expected anything different.

    Re: Ohio St. Players busted...

I don't know how that is even an infraction. What, now you can't even sell the stuff that you've earned in order to have a little money? I think that its sad we even put the players in a situation where they feel they need to sell these honors, which most likely they will regret or have to buy back if they can. The NCAA, the schools, and just about everyone else makes money on them but they can't even do what they want with what they've earned. Stupid NCAA committee. Wonder where the next resort/conference meeting will be held.

Seems like a pretty harsh punishment to me.

Would you think its fair if they were just suspended for the bowl game and not any time next year?

5 games kills them next year and probably causes some of these kids to leave early.

    Re: Ohio St. Players busted...

it doesn't kill them for next year at all.

here are the 5 games they will miss

Sat, Sep 03 Akron Columbus, Ohio TBA
Sat, Sep 10 Toledo Columbus, Ohio TBA
Sat, Sep 17 Miami (Fla.) at Miami, Fla. TBA
Sat, Sep 24 Colorado Columbus, Ohio TBA
Sat, Oct 01 Michigan State *

They probably come out 4-1, maybe 3-2, and still have agreat shot at the big 10 title game.

Wow... if those were anyone but OSU or Auburn players, they would be suspended for the bowl game, guarantee it. NCAA gotta make that cash...

    Re: Ohio St. Players busted...

Isn't this basically the same thing that the Georgia receiver got suspended for this year? He sold his jersee if I remember correctly. I don't believe his suspension was as long but he was suspended right away. How did they determine that he was supposed to know it was an infraction but these guys didn't? What a corrupt organization the NCAA is.

    Re: Ohio St. Players busted...

NCAA is such a joke. First off, they will miss almost half a season for selling something they owned? Then, as stupid as the punishment is, it doesn't affect the next game on the schedule which just happens to be a big money making game?

I'm sure Arkansas is wondering WTF.

Agreed with the potential record, just wait and see of these kids stick around. TP doesnt seem to me like the kind of person who will stay now and take his punishment.

Ya AJ Green was suspended for the first 4 games this year.

    Re: Ohio St. Players busted...

So let me get this straight....

These players will not be suspended for the bowl game because these infractions took place prior to them being educated properly in regards to the infractions that they committed. So why the 5 game suspension for next season? Wouldn't the infractions still have been done prior to them being educated properly?

This is why the NCAA doesn't deserve any respect at all. They hold all of the power and unfortunately are one of the most corrupt organizations you will ever find. The best part is... they don't even try to hide the corruption. They flaunt it and put it out there for everyone to see and nobody can do anything about it.

    Re: Ohio St. Players busted...

So, tOSU didn't educate their players enough so they didn't get a harsh punishment, but yet tOSU doesn't get anything for their part? I can understand if the NCAA wanted to come down on tOSU being that this was 'apparently' their fault for not educating these guys. But to say that the players will receive light punishments and the school is not responsible is just stupid. I guess schools should just reduce their rules education to get an out if one of their players breaks one.
