    Sam McGuffie

I wondered what happened to this guy, who we attempted to recruit but committed to Michigan a few years back. He started off well there, and then abruptly left and transferred closer to home to Rice. Rice?! This guy was a recruiting sensation a few years back, and seemingly left Michigan without much of an explanation.

I'm curious what happened there, and why somebody like us wouldn't have gone after his services (he left after his freshman year). I see he had a few concussions....but concussions weren't made to be a huge deal as much a few years back as this past year. Wonder why we didn't give him a look.

I thought he went to Rice to go to Herman...but then Herman left.

Huh, since he left Michigan in Dec. '08 the timing of this holds up for your explanation since Herman would still have been there. Damn, we might have just missed him in that case.

In all reality you had no clue why he left Michigan or why he went to Rice.

he was their leading rusher. under a thousand yards. not bad receiving stats either. not lighting the world on fire, but respectable.

Most likely to be close to home, but I kind of thought Rice is a little underneath his tremendous abilities.

    Re: Sam McGuffie

He had three concussions that first year. The rumors were that Michigan really didn't want to put him on the field at that point. There were also rumors he was really homesick. He's a good player at Rice but simply wasn't going to be an every down back at Michigan. Could we have used him? Yes, but He wouldn't have been our starter this year or for the future at RB IMO. The reason he started at Michigan had much more to do with Minor and Brown being injured all of the time.

Rich Rod has taken concussions very seriously since he has been there. Denard was held out out because there was as light chance he could have one and he didn't. I don't know how most coaches are but he seems to be pretty tentative.

Huh, well as much as I dislike Michigan as an OSU fan I can really respect that.

Me, too. More coaches should be cautious around concussions. It is the brain, after all.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!
