Our BB schedule is a disgrace

Only 3 schools from BCS conferences have a worse schedule.

So I ask...what is the point?

Playing a cupcake schedule certainly isn't good for season ticket holders. And it sure as heck isn't going to fool the polls or the computers either. Nor will it prepare us for a Big 12 Conference schedule. So is it just supposed to make us feel better about ourselves because it makes our record look better?

    Thoughts?

Re: Our BB schedule is a disgrace

    Troll?

The reason the schedule is what it is, is because this team needs all the confidence it can possibly build up. It's a young team and a lot of these guys just need to learn to play together. 11-2 against this schedule is still a helluva lot more exciting to look at as fans than 6-6 or 7-5 against a schedule a little bit more difficult.

SOS is important, but this team's chances of making the tourney were slim to none and therefore scheduling a difficult non-conference schedule is useless, essentially.

Considering how many players we returned from last year's squad, and considering we have a brand new coach, to be honest JR, I'm ok with it.
The Big 12 is tough. Last I knew, the Big 12 was the only conference with a winning record vs the Top 25. So I'm ok, under the previously mentioned circumstances, with our weak non-con schedule.

Greg played more than one schedule that was pretty similar to this, and never went 11-2, so that's nice, at least.

Sure, it's a horrible schedule. It think you hit the motivation exactly right. That's the only way that Greg might have held off the dogs this year. Although his teams would have been in a lot of trouble with Chicago State's hot start tonight.

Re: Our BB schedule is a disgrace

Its a good idea for a season like this one. Get the team some confidence, get some positive vibes for the program.

Look, the schedule would be comparable to many of our past schedules if teams like Iowa, Cal, Creighton, and UNI were as good as they have been normally. Still have a tough game at Virginia left too. Big 12 will be a beast regardless because of our lack of depth inside.

Re: Our BB schedule is a disgrace

What's the point of playing a hard schedule with this team? It's not very much fun to see them getting beat by double digits.

Next year will be a MUCH harder schedule with the kind of team we'll have. We will need to get as many quality wins as possible in the non conference to build up the resume. This year, we aren't really playing for anything so the the type of opponents we play doesn't really matter.

Not sure what kind of schedule you want with a team only returing 4 players from a year ago?

We needed it thi syear more than any other with all new faces practically. I think it pays off int he long run and it turns out some of those teams were good when they ere scheduled but are on down years. (Cal, UNI, Drake,Virginia, Iowa)

Re: Our BB schedule is a disgrace

With a thin cobbled together roster I'm glad they aren't getting thrown to the wolves right away this year. Maybe they can get some confidence before the hammer drops. They might actually be able to pull off a couple of upsets. If they were beat down from the start they probably don't have the confidence to do that.

Is getting their ***** handed to them night after night better for season ticket holders?

Hopefully next year's schedule is fitting for a deeper, more talented and experienced squad. I don't know if it is tougher.

Re: Our BB schedule is a disgrace

After 4 years of not having a .500 season, it was time to get some wins. We're not trying to make a statement this year by going out and getting a bunch of quality wins. We're trying to build a program to the point of getting back into the NCAA Tournament in the next year or two. Confidence is what this program needs with a new staff and mostly new players, and giving them a tough schedule that isn't setting them up for success would not help a thing. Besides, if we ARE any good, we would take care of things during Big 12 conference play and lock up a post-season bid. But I'm sure we'll find out how nice it was to get all of these wins in non-conference games soon enough. (I hope I'm wrong.)
