    2007 basketball schedule

Does anyone know what our bball schedule looks like for next year? I know we're playing at Ohio State, but don't know about any other non-conference games. Who are we playing at Wells Fargo?

I think the schedules usually come out in middle to late August. But I hope that Gmac schedules us a low key schedule, just so our new recruits can get their feet wet without having their swagger destroyed.

    Re: 2007 basketball schedule

Nebraska likes to schedule Longwood as a gimme. Longwood could replace EA Sports, which turned out to bew a tougher matchup. South Dakota State might be a good starter. Maybe someone should take a poll about which would be a good team to play in the preseason. Too bad Colorado is in the Big 12, since they lost 10 seniors and we could have won over the embattled Ricardo Patton.

A good team to face to see how good this team really is would be Illinois. They lose their best two starters and even though they are expected to make the dance again, it will be a down year for them.

I agree Illinois wouldn't be a bad team to get on the schedual especially since they are a fairly close team, minnesota wouldn't be a bad pick up either

We'll probably see the schedule out in August, but remember that Greg Doyel revealed that Lousiana Tech would come to Ames as part of a Cyclone Challenge. I'm not sure if they ultimately pulled out of it, but it'd be nice to see a school with a name someone has actually heard of.

I agree about seeing a school that people have heard of before. I've been talking about this in the football section. It doesn't really matter how good a team is, what really matter's is how good (or how well known) their name is. That will give Iowa State better exposure.

What sounds better, a slate of teams with names like "West-Central Southern State" or "Northeastern Prairie U.", or teams like Washington, Minnesota, Illinois, Tennessee? It wouldn't really even matter if "W-CSS" or "NEPU" would go undefeated, while Washington, Minnessota, Illinois, and Tennesee combined for 20 total wins. The names alone help our school look better and gives us more spotlight. Also, how does a loss to a team like "Northeastern Prairie U." sound compared to a loss by a team like Tennessee? This is the point that I have been trying to make.

How about Southern Mississippi and Larry E?

    Re: 2007 basketball schedule

This past year we had prime examples of this in Iona and Northwestern St. Neither were given much credit when we played them, but they both made it to the tourney after very successful years. And we all know what Northwestern State did in the Tourney! ;D
