    Lunar Eclipse tonight

Ok braniacs, what time do I need to go out to look at this thing if I live in Ames?

It's cold out and I don't want to miss too much of the Bears/Vikings game.

    Starts around 1:30 AM...eclipse won't be total until around 3ish, I think.

    Re: Lunar Eclipse tonight

Depends on how much you like astronomical events. This is the first total lunar eclipse on the winter solstice since 1638. There won't be another visible in N. America total eclipse until 2014.

Sounds like channel 13 is saying the clouds are rolling in and is probably going to affect the ability to see the eclipse.

    Re: Lunar Eclipse tonight

Am I the only one to see it tonite? I wish my camera wasn't packed away for my move or I would have had pics. The clouds broke up enough for me to see it. Wasn't total yet but nonetheless worth it for a nerd like myself.

I didn't see all of it, but it was pretty clear out around 3:15-3:30.

    Re: Lunar Eclipse tonight

There is another lunar eclipse June 15 2011. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. At least it should be warm enough to sit outside and relax.

Last visible in 1986, so not again until about 2061.
