    Christmas Weather

Have been looking at the bufkit warehouse the last couple days and looks like there might be a big storm this coming Friday...still a ways out and models all over the place.

What are the weather guru's thoughts on this coming weekend's weather?

    Re: Christmas Weather

The one to ring in the new year on the 12 Z run of the GFS model looks much more impressive....

Thursday into Friday, at this point, is showing 4 to 6 inches of snow for central Iowa. SW Iowa could have issues with precip type (Freezing rain). Looks like heaviest precip will be South and East of Iowa as the low tracks along or near the Arkansas and Missouri border. It doesn't appear the winds will be anywhere near blizzard warning criteria.

Obviously this is going to change as the week goes on. I say bet the 12 Z Monday 'Euro' run....

Well if it's rolling out of here by Friday morning, that will work well for when we leave in the afternoon.

A local meterologist told me once that you can predict the weather fairly well 24 to 48 hours out, but you go further out than that and the accuracy drops dramatically. It's still that way even with all the high tech tools we have today.

We'll see. There's nothing we can do about it.

Yup... shovel-able snow likely for Iowa, mainly Thursday into Friday morning. Heaviest in the south. A pretty good wind should accompany this storm but I'd question right now if it'd be enough for blizzard criteria given how "wet" the snow looks like it'll be.

Too early to say amounts but it looks sizable right now.

I won't even bother looking at that New Year's stuff.

I never thought I'd ever see "Bufkit" mentioned on this board.

Santa has a sled so snow isnt an issue for him. He also has a reindeer with a red nose so he can find his way around. You really need to watch more christmas shows.

I wasn't concerned about that, I was more concerned about the lack of Christmas spirit... How's Santa's sleigh supposed to fly when there's not enough spirit!?!? Remember, Santa got rid of the rocket booster on his sleigh last year.

Just go out and sing a few Christmas songs with 500 of you closest friends and he will have no problems flying.

Just get Scrooge to sing a Christmas song.

Aww yes! The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear!

    Re: Christmas Weather

It's enough that I'm tentatively changing my travel plans from Thursday night to Friday afternoon. I'm lucky that my family isn't at all concerned when we celebrate or when we get home. I would hate for the pressure to arrive at 4:00 pm on Christmas Eve or whatever other pressure families put on their kids.
