    WBB Recruiting Update

    Fanatics,

I'm hearing that Julie Van Loo (Belgian Guard) is currently on her way from Belgium to Ames. She will be coming with her mother for a two-day unofficial visit. The reason why it is an unofficial visit is because she has not taken the proper test required by the NCAA to allow Iowa State to make it an official visit.

None the less, this is big news as she would be a 2011 commitment. As it is with most foreign players, Iowa State could be waiting this out for awhile. I have been told it is either Iowa State or turning pro. Rumor is she is getting heavy heat to stay overseas and start making a name for herself right away, but her dream is to play in the WNBA, thus making the move to the U.S. an obvious one.

What I know about her as a player is that she has played against top-notch competition for a long period of time. She played for the Belgian National team in the U17 World championships where her team got 4th and she averaged 16 points per game. She has been referenced as a "scorer."

She will be at the Iowa State game tomorrow night again Cal State Northridge. I hope Cyclone fans can show her what a Hilton Magic crowd looks like. I'll try to catch up with her sometime during her visit.

Is it Van Loo or Vanloo? I believe the former but sites have her surname as the latter.

Fellow Belgian Emma Meesseman is a monster and there are players in Spain, Australia who want U.S. experience and then go on to the WNBA.

Sure this is a rich field (talented foriegn bb ladies) but once they get here competiton for their talent is the same as any great player.

Difficult (expensive as well as other factors) but productive if you can find talents amenable to coming to the U.S. to school and sign them before they are known to other NCAA programs. We do have a small Aussie connection building and I know the Australians want to compete against Russian, China and the U.S. in Olympic games. One way is to get experience in the U.S. and what better way than through the college NCAA WBB system.

Oye yay (as Lauren would say), Van Loo sounds much like Iowa's Logic though Samantha has two inches on her.

    St Louis,
I thought it was one word (vanloo) when she was brought up in the summer of 09 ironically enough by a foreign player we had at that time. Messeeman is a beast but I think she might have already gone pro? Unsure on that.
I do know that not only do we have a Belgium interest but there are a couple gals from Israel that would sure look good in cardinal.

    Re: WBB Recruiting Update

I found her facebook page, and it's spelled "Vanloo" there. I think that's the definitive answer.

    Re: WBB Recruiting Update

BF does like the short guards. If Logic has two inches on her that would make her about 5-7. I hope she likes Iowa State and that we also get the two basketball players from Israel.

    Re: WBB Recruiting Update

Here is the article I found on Julie Vanloo and Emma Meesseman last August: Your Daily Fix of Basketball News | FIBA.COM

Good interview and though things haven't changed for Julie wanting to come to the U.S. I see no indication of Emma being interested in U.S. NCAA WBB. But there aspects of her that make her a possible prospect as of this article and mentions on other sites.

One is she wants to continue her eduction, and she could do that in the U.S., and seems not yet to talk of going Professional in the EU. Secondly is she likes that she's been compared to Ann Wauters (a Belgian) who plays in the WNBA. Emma and Julie are buds too and that can be important. Christmas wishes yes, but could Bill be recruiting her as we have schollies open?

For 2011 we have no Forwards signed and Emma is a long shot but a good one.

    Re: WBB Recruiting Update

BF has had international players and some players who have gone international. He works long hours everyday and I wouldn't doubt if some of that time is tracking these international prospects and their links with our former players. Wilkins, Fox and Wilson have spent time in Europe. Obviously, Aus is in Australia.
Tracy Gahan used to be there, also. Claire Rockall had, I think, a positive experience. Any other ambassadors come to mind?

I'm not sure what you consider a forward, but Williamson (wing/forward) and Mays (forward/post) could qualify.

I forgot Mays as she signed late, Williams I see as a Wing.
