    Brewers land Greinke

Wow, if this goes down, kudos to the Brew Crew. They got Greinke and didn't liquidate their farm system. Sucks to be a Royals fan!

Not to say it can't happen still or isn't true but this is not being picked up anywhere else that I can see. MLBTraderumors doesn't even mention Milwaukee in its list of possible options and there's nothing on ESPN either. They may not technically have traded away their farm if this goes down but they do give up a very young CF and SS who both have a ton of potential and already have ML experience. The pitchers mentioned appear to be pretty solid too.

Neither are stellar sources. MLBTR reports very little information that they get themselves, they are more of a compilation of links. ESPN is usually behind on this stuff until it gets closer to being official.

ESPN uses all of its resources in NY, Boston, Chicago, and LA...they are completely confused as to where Milwaukee and Kansas City are on the map!

While I would agree on both, MLBTR does generally pass along everything so the fact that they haven't even mentioned it says something. Again, not shooting down the rumor or the story at all just saying we may want to hold off congratulating Milwaukee until something a little more definite is known.

Not sure I really like the trade for Milwaukee anyway. They are giving up the entire middle of their defense which is the structure for a good team. I don't follow the Brewers enough to know what they have to replace their CF and SS with but Greinke better hope its good or he's not in any better of a position then he was with KC.

Die hard Royals fan here and season ticket holder. Don't get too excited about Greinke. He had one spectacular season and one solid season. The others have been disappointments. He can be a head case and is not a locker room/glue guy...far from it. He's very moody and not well liked by by other players from what I've been told. His depression issues are well documented and he's still dealing with them. I have no idea who the Brewers gave up but if the are top shelf prospects, I'm thrilled with this move.

    Re: Brewers land Greinke

Royals' Greinke traded to Brewers, sources say - ESPN

Milwaukee's downfall has been pitching the last 3 years. The fans were getting upset by the lack of movement on the club's part and showing it via attendance.

A solid deal for Milwaukee imo. Alcides is still a very shaky hitter, although he's only had 1 full year in the league. He will definitely be missed up the middle on D. As for the pitching prospects, from what I know Jeffries has great potential but is headcase and a bit of a problem too.

We'll see how things pan out but I'm excited for the Crew's GM to make some waves. The Wolf/Hawkins "blockbuster deal" prior to last season flopped for the most part.

The article makes it sound like they are mortgaging the future.

    Re: Brewers land Greinke

A am a Royals fan too and if true am saddened that Greinke is leaving. He may be a head case but he is a great pitcher. Most of the time he didn't have any offense to back him up so he lost a lot of close ball games or the relievers found a way to lose ball games. He'll have better offensive support in Milwaukee.

Doesn't appear they are going to be paying him much though.

In seven major league seasons, Greinke is 60-67 with a 3.82 ERA. He signed a four-year extension prior to the '09 season and will earn $27 over the next two years

that's about right for a career 60-67 record

W-L record is not a good barometer of success for a pitcher, especially when that pitcher has been playing for the Royals.

Either way, without knowing much about the situation and any other offers/suitors who were after him, I'm surprised he would go to the Brewers. There isn't much going on there, but maybe he's just all about the money.

    Re: Brewers land Greinke

When Greinke has something to pitch for he pitches much better. He needs a team that has some chance at playoffs to stay interested. When he had his great year it was because he was wanting to win the Cy Young. Give him a team that can score and a chance at the division (long shot probably) and he could do very well there. As a cubs fan i am not excited to see him in the Central. When he is on he is unhittable.

Kind of highlights the Cubs' position in that the Cubs (as everyone knows) are just hamstrung by payroll problems due to bad contracts, while the Brewers have added two decent pitchers to their rotation.

once again the royals prove that they are the pirates of the AL. they trade away their best players for some average players who probably wont turn out to be great players. the royals need to grow some balls like the twins and start shelling out the cash for these people

    Re: Brewers land Greinke

I am a Royals fan and have mixed feelings about the trade. It sucks because he was a spectacular pitcher (when he wanted to be) but obviously wasn't happy in Kansas City. Not only did the Royals front office give him what he wanted, but they also kind of stuck it to him because he wanted to be on a team "that wins" and wasn't willing to wait a couple of years for Moustakas, Hosmer, Myers, and the rest of one of the highest rated farm systems to come up to the majors.

I think he was hoping to go to an instant winner and went to a team that is the 4th or 5th best team in their division and haven't been relevant since Ned Yost (who happens to manage the Royals now) was the manager of the team.
