So what does your business do for a Christmas party?

Just kind of wondering what types of parties that businesses throw and how extravagant businesses get. We had ours at our supervisor's place yesterday afternoon, we got out of work early. We drank and played Wii and pool, it was a great time.

Pin the tail on the Donkey, followed by a riveting game of Red Rover.

We had a lunch and white elephant gift exchange a couple of weeks ago. Other than that, squat. I am actually surpised we don't do more considering we are a big national company.

Re: So what does your business do for a Christmas party?

We have a decent party at a restaurant/bar with dinner. Usually an open-bar or semi-open-bar. There is a raffle with small prizes and 2 or 3 decent ones (ipod or $200 gift card to bestbuy or something similar). Usually a band or some karaoke... It's definitely a fun time.

This year's was postponed to sometime early 2011 because of the snow storm on Saturday. Funny thing is that I worked my tail off (some late nights) putting together a video for the party. Now I've got all the time in the world to make changes... but it's done.

Re: So what does your business do for a Christmas party?

My first year we didn't have anything on the jobsite. The lead company of the joint venture I'm on had their 100th year anniversary party back in KC. I don't work for the lead so I wasn't invited. A VP for my company was in town during december and took the 5 of us that weren't employed by the lead out to a nice dinner.

Second year we rented out a reception hall and had dinner/drinks/dancing. Wasn't anything spectacular to be honest.

This year we rented out a place in new orleans city park and had appetizers/drinks with a live band. Everyone had a great time (most people are saying it was one of the best office parties they've ever been to). We tried to pay the place and the band to stay open for another 2 hours but they wouldn't have it. We then proceeded to hit up a bar and had a tab running on a corporate card. Needless to say we all had a great time.

We throw a big gala on an upper floor of the tallest building in the city, and we invite everyone's estranged spouses from cities across the country to attend and have awkward reunions. Last year, though, this truck full of Germans and that guy who played Walker's sidekick showed up in our parking garage just as I was leaving. Not sure what happened after that.

Re: So what does your business do for a Christmas party?

Nothing at all. Used to have a very nice party at Hy-Vee hall with great food and live music but the year of Katrina they announced they were donating the party money to the Katrina funds and we all knew at that point we'd never see the party again. Don't get holiday bonuses here either and we're lucky if the boss takes even us out somewhere after work and buys apetizers or something.

    Last year, boring hotel ballroom.

This year, Casino. Much better. Though I would prefer the strippers.

Re: So what does your business do for a Christmas party?

The company I work for now does a dinner party. It's ok, but nothing fancy.

The last company I worked for threw a big party - rented a nice hotel ballroom, served dinner, raffle prizes (including computers, TVs, and a family trip to Disney, among other things), open bar, etc. The bill for our company of 70 people was approximately $30k.

We are going to Hazeltine CC for my wife's company party tonight. Semi-formal with dinner, drinks, and a murder mystery...Not sure what to expect as this is her first year with the company but it sounds much better than we did for mine.

Re: So what does your business do for a Christmas party?

Basically had an indoor tailgate for ours this year. Wii on the big screen in the conference room and that was fun watching some old guys play. Couple sets of cornhole in the hallways. A horseracing board game that is actually a lot of fun. Full coolers and Palmer's brought in a bunch of appetizers. A couple people brought a few other snacks and we had a great time

Exaggeration is a BILLION times worse than understating.
