    I think geography has a ton to do with it. The South is very Coke friendly.

    I'm pretty sure Coke dominates the west coast, enough so that they call every kind of soda out there a Coke. Pepsi seems more popular in the midwest, but I don't think that's the case around the country.

    Soda/Pop/Coke are all names that mean the same thing. A regional difference of calling it Soda/Pop/Coke does not imply that Coke is more popular than Pepsi on the West Coast. You might very well be correct that it is, but I don't think the term used to describe the product would validate your claim.

    I think that's more the case in the south. Coke is based out of Atlanta. here's a link to a map of US broken down by who calls it what.
