    Crucial.com

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming it was accidental, but be careful if any of you order RAM from crucial.com. I placed an order two weeks ago to upgrade the RAM on my pc. I was so happy with the purchase I went back yesterday to repeat my previous order and found that the item was on sale. BONUS! Until I just checked my credit card online and found they double-billed me for both transactions. I'm having a hell of a time getting my money back from them. If you order from them, watch your statement like a hawk. Umm...or maybe an eagle. Yeah, that.

I'd just dispute the charges with your credit card company. They will fix it.

Yikes. Fluke Id say. We order from them all of the time and have for years with no problem. Probably a good habit to check statements from anyone these days. Computers arent perfect....

    Re: Crucial.com

Oddly, I use Crucial's site to figure out what RAM I need, then find it somewhere cheaper where I usually expect that I am much more likely to be exposed to this situation.

Do this too sometimes, but crucial has gotten a bit more competitive on some RAM. For most desktop needs you can find it elsewhere.

    Re: Crucial.com

You're better off just not buying Crucial RAM, if my recent experiences are any indication.

In November of 2007 I bought 2x1GB of PC6400 Crucial memory. In December of 2008 both sticks failed. It had a lifetime warranty but I didn't have time to wait around for the RMA, so I purchased 2x1GB of Patriot memory with similar specs, and let the Crucial memory sit on the shelf when it arrived.

In April of 2009 I built a new computer for my office at school, and used the replacement Crucial RAM in it. In February of 2010 both sticks failed. Again, I didn't have time to wait for an RMA so I bought 2x1GB of G.Skill RAM with similar specs, and put the Crucial memory away when it arrived. The worst part is I didn't even turn this computer on between the beginning of May and the end of August because I was either gone to conferences or doing field work all summer. Basically it lasted for all of 6-7 months of use.

In June of 2010 I used the replacement Crucial RAM in a computer I built to act as a file server at home. It hasn't died yet, but it won't surprise me when it does happen. Meanwhile, all of the Patriot and G.Skill RAM I have purchased in the past 5 years still works just fine.

    Re: Crucial.com

Remember, Crucial.com was the title sponsor of the 2002 Bowl-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named.

And we all know how THAT turned out.
