iPad capturing big bite out of 2010 PC product sales forecast

The 2010 Personal Computer product sales forecast has been revised downward from first projections. Personal Computer product sales are being impacted by the reputation of Apple's iPad and its tablet kin. Industry analysts are saying the trend will gain momentum. The PC era could be coming to an end, given the increased acceptance of tablets and other technology for instance hosted virtual desktops.

Tablets take large bite away from 2010 Personal Computer sales

Gartner on Monday cut the forecast for PC sales this year. The revision downward in PC sales numbers was made as a result of huge reception for the Apple's iPad tablet. PC product sales may also go down with all the imitators of the iPad coming out and being sold. The 2010 increase in 2010 Personal Computer sales was changed from 17.9 percent from 2009 to 14.3 percent by Gartner. Also, growth was supposed to be 18.1 percent in 2011 for Personal Computer product sales and is now 15.9 percent. 10 percent of Personal Computer sales are expected to be taken by tablets. This is supposed to happen by 2014.

The reason why there are fewer Personal computers retailing now

Due to the weak employment and uncertain business climate, the PC sales already were suffering before Appleís iPad. The iPad is already outselling Apple's Macintosh computers. Personal computers havenít been able to innovate as much since the volume increase and price decrease has been the focus although Gartner points out that PCís are necessary. The change from PCís to tablets was compared to the change from farmerís trucks to family vehicles in the 20th century by Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

    Personal computer time over?

PC product sales are being further eroded by the emergence of hosted virtual desktops (HVDs). Employees are able to use HVDs in order to connect to a virtual machine running on a back-end server with cheap terminals. The HVD is also helpful for IT departments. They're able to fix big problems without having to go through every individual device. This is bad news for business like HP and Dell that are expected to take huge hits. Microsoft, which sells 85 percent of Windows on new PCs, will even have to adapt.

I'd say it should fall into the realm. It's a Personal Computer. We all have our opinions on the software and etc. but...it's a computer.
