    Jake Anderson running the Point

For most of the night Jake was running the point on offense. I wonder if this is something we are trying or are switching to.

Re: Jake Anderson running the Point

It was just the 2nd half, wasn't it?

He's done it a couple of times, but the 2nd half tonight was the most extended time.

Re: Jake Anderson running the Point

I don't recall for sure...for sure the whole second half though. Not sure if it was because DG was getting dominated by his man. He worked his butt off on D and still wasn't quick enough to keep up.

He only ran it a couple of times in the first and he didn't run in the whole second half...he ran it a lot in the second half but it was def not the whole half.

He ran the point whenever DG was out. I don't know why anyone would want to take the ball out of DG's hands at the point.

He ran it for several minutes in the 2nd half while DG was in the game.

He and DG changed positions, but things did not look as smooth with Jake at the point tonight.

At the same time, nothing really looked as smooth anyway, so I don't think it's Jake.

Overall, of course we're better with DG at the point. That shouldn't be arguable.

Re: Jake Anderson running the Point

From my observation I think we just want to get in the hands of a guard and get out and run. And sometimes when our bigs get a rebound it happens to be Jake that is right there for the outlet and other times it is DG.

Re: Jake Anderson running the Point

I think this was to avoid having Palo as the primary PG. They wanted to give DG a break and Anderson is a solid point guy (didn't he play point at NIU?). I think this may have been a "fresh-legs" scenario.

Re: Jake Anderson running the Point

I think Jake runs the point well, the team however didn't look in sync last night. Texas Southern had quite a few athletes and played stellar defense. Maybe this was a good opportunity to get Jake some experience playing a different position. I don't recall seeing this at the Iowa game, but both DG and Jake were in the game.

Jake ran the point with DG in the game for the last ~2 minutes of the first half against Iowa.

This. We might not have played the best, but give Texas Southern a lot of credit. I don't care what their record is, they were a solid team. #24, Travelle Jones (?), looks like a legit pro prospect to me. Athletic, can shoot, good handle, and size. He'd start on our team.

At least with Jake in I don't have to yell, "Diante---nooooooo!!!!" Please Diante, dish or drive (you're good at that), no jumpers please.

I would say to get him some solid time at the point as having a plan B to Diante is huge if he continues to dribble into triple teams and throw weak passes on the wing. If this doesn continue in conference play we'll get crushed. I agree he needs to break down defenses with the dribble but there's also a balance of when you get doubled you obviously have an open man. When he does that our offense works well, when he doesn't, we stall.
