Strong rumor - new Pitt coach is Al Golden

Looks like Temple's Al Golden could be the new coach at Pitt. He is also on the "most wanted" list at Miami.
As an ex-Penn State player, Golden would be an interesting hire.

Owl fans look away, but we're getting reports that Al Golden is going to be hired by Pitt.

His name also came up for Minnesota and Vandy. Don't know anything about him but if 4 schools showed interest he must have something going for him.

Sure, coach a year or two there, then move on.

He's done a good job at Temple, not a bad hire.

Any hire that's not Paul Rhoads is a good hire for Pitt.

I would guess that Golden, Edsell and Schiano are getting a little tired of waiting for Paterno to retire. Pitt's a decent job...easy league, pro facilities, FL team on the schedule for recruiting. Still, they don't have a huge budget.

Pretty sure that Golden's dream job is still PSU, and doing well at Pitt would only brighten his star. Schiano's downturn at Rutgers has obviously damaged his stock.
Who the hell knows about JoePa? There is serious speculation there that he is worried that his son Jay would be left off the staff if a new coach was hired.

I'm sure Pitt fans will be disappointed. I mean, they probably figured Urban Meyer or Bob Stoops would be taking the job. Possibly Jim Tressel.

Golden seems like a good hire and it's a good move for him personally. You go 8-4 at Temple and there's nothing to show for it. Time to move on ASAP.

Their fans on whatever message board I ended up on last night were downright dillusional. They were looking for Lomardi reincarnated to come back and coach.

I heard JoePa was in Pittsburgh interviewing with the AD. Some of those fans need to wake up and get a reality check.

Re: Strong rumor - new Pitt coach is Al Golden

I think that would be a decent hire for Pitt. I did read a stat somewhere that Golden's record is a little deceiving, as he's beat up on awful teams and has a very below average record against teams with actual winning records.

Regardless, I'm all for it as this would keep CPR here in Ames where we need him to stay.
