    SNL

Anyone watch it tonight? Paul McCartney is putting on a hell of a show. I have to say the last few years of SNL has been top notch. I really enjoy this show.

    Re: SNL

Wow! I was going to start a thread about how bad I thought he and the band sounded. My wife muted the TV as we were disappointed how he was butchering our favorite songs. I'm not sure how we heard the same performance and had such different takes.

In a 1980 interview, Lennon said that the last time he had seen McCartney was when they had watched the episode of Saturday Night Live (May 1976) in which Lorne Michaels had made his $3,000 cash offer to get Lennon, McCartney, Harrison, and Starr to reunite on the show.McCartney and Lennon had seriously considered going to the studio, but were too tired.

    Re: SNL

I'm not sure how anyone can say SNL is any good. I watched until Paul played his first song. Then I had to find something else. It sounded as if his mic wasn't on, you could barely hear him. The cast of SNL is brutally painful to watch, I miss the late 90's, early 00's.

Is there a better musician that Paul McCartney in "modern" music? I think not.

    Re: SNL

Where I can not say anything about the show tonight because I did not watch it I do have to disagree that it's been top Notch lately. I think it's been lacking for the past 5 or so years. It was pretty top notch imo (just and opinion) around 2000 will ferrell, sandler, spade, fallon, farley, rock, walken just to name a few. Once again, just my opinion. And from what I've been told those don't even compare to the days of John Belushi.

    Re: SNL

SNL's cast now is better than its been in a while. Jason Sudeikis, Kenan Thompson, Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen, Andy Samberg, and Kristen Wiig are excellent. Samberg's digital shorts are always good for a laugh (Like a Boss, On a Boat, Lazy Sunday, etc). They have had quite a few talented people leave in the last few years too with Tina Fey, Amy Poeller, and Will Forte.

And I'd rather listen to an old rocker than some Lady Gaga ****.

    Re: SNL

SNL has a way of seeming brutal, but when you see some of the "best of" shows, they're sometimes hilarious. There's usually one or two skits that are worth watching, but the rest are horrible.

Really? I always considered that the absolute worst period of the show's history. To each their own I guess....

    Re: SNL

What is the most tired, overused compliant about SNL?

That the current cast sucks and/or the show isn't funny anymore. Seriously....this gets old and you hear it so often that it is almost cliche'd. People have been saying this since the original cast left which makes it completely shocking that it is going on 35+ year now if it is really that bad.

Anyway, on McCartney last night -- I really enjoyed his song selection. Was less-than-impressed with his voice quality, however.

I agree - McCartney's voice isn't the same, but who is at his age? I admire that he chose songs without regard to his decreased range.
For me, the skill of the celebrity guest in the skits makes/breaks the show. For example, I am not especially a fan of Taylor Swift or her music, but she was hilarious on SNL. She threw herself into everthing fearlessly and energetically. She was great.

Exactly, there are some guests that get how to be on the show and they should just book every year, like Justin Timberlake. I'm not a big fan by any means, but I will try and catch the show if he's on, because it is always great.

And the show has been better the last few years, seems like there are at least one or two good sketches every week.
