    What a day

Anyone ever had a kid with a fever off the charts?

I woke up to find my 10 yr old son laying in a daze. He said he couldn't get up and was too dizzy. The kid looked awful. I took his fever, it was 105.3.

I kind of felt panicked. Neither of my boys have ever had a fever this high. I got some ibuprofen gel caps in him (2 = 400mg). The fever came down to the 103 range. I got him to the pediatrician, they checked his white count, it was 32K. They gave him 1g of Rocefin(sp?) and sent us to the hospital.

We're home now after a day with Drs. They initially thought it was pneumonia, but the chest x-rays were negative. So....not sure what it is, except they feel it's bacterial. Kind of feel helpless. Hope the antibiotics they gave him start to do the trick and the prescription he starts in the morning gets him going in the right direction.

I don't like getting sick, but I hate it when one of my kids gets sick...My youngest was in the hospital for an extended period when he was 2, the feeling sucks!

Thanks. I did feel pretty freaked out. I didn't eat anything all day. Haven't had a shower yet either. He's sleeping now. Hope it's downhill from here. That's a high fever.

    Re: What a day

Sympathies. I'm not looking forward to the day when I have to deal with that with my kids. It's scary enough dealing with a 101 degree fever.

    Re: What a day

I've got to take him back in the morning, per Dr's orders. They want to check his white count again. He's never sick either, that's what has me freaking out a bit.

    Re: What a day

Pretty scary, but I think kids usually run a higher temp then adults when they are sick. 105 is kind of scary though

    Re: What a day

I've never experienced anything over 104. So over 105, I did a double take. When we got back from the hospital it hit 105 again, but then the ibuprofen has it back down in the 103 range.

    Re: What a day

Wow, my girls have been as high as 104 before and that's plenty scary. My kids tend to run fevers when they're sick so I've stopped getting too upset until it gets to 102 but I hate picking them up and feeling like my arms are burning. Hope things calm down overnight.

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.

    Re: What a day

Just checked on him. Sound asleep, but sweating like no other. Fever is still at 102. I just keep hoping it will break.

Having sick kids is the worst. I'd much rather be sick myself than to watch my boy suffer. Our prayers for a speedy recovery

This is why I love being married to a nurse, she handles this kinda stuff a lot better.

My ex is not medically inclined, so I'm glad he's with me.

    Re: What a day

Many people can quickly lower fevers a bit if they put their kids in the tub. Do it if you see 105.
