FH needs to have heart to heart with V

The one thing we needed V to do last night was stay out of foul trouble. He didn't, and we won in spite of him, not because of him. At least two of his fouls were stupid, preventable mental mistakes. And he is damn lucky he didn't get T'd up after his third foul when he spiked the ball into the basket support. In my opinion, that shows a lack of regard for the rest of the team and had I been officiating the game it would have been an automatic T. The team would have really been in a bad spot if he'd picked up his fourth foul then and, in my honest opinion, he should have. I hope FH sits down and has a heart-to-heart with him.

1 or 2 of the "fouls" called on him were crap.

    Hooray for Metaphors!

I agree. But those are also the kind of fouls you avoid if you aren't acting like a jerk and they're not looking for you to do something stupid.

I totally agree OP. 1-2 fouls a game are frustration fouls with him, seems to let his emotions show too much. Loved him as a 6-7 man, not so much as a starter.

I love JVB's skills but he's almost 7' tall, he should be doing that on a nightly basis.

He doesn't need a heart-to-heart, he just needs coaching. He's not very good around the basket defensively or offensively. He's just never learned how to effectively play there.

If he shoots threes take advantage of the college line. Don't shoot it from NBA distance (some of his threes were very long). I would like it if he could get low more and score like that.

    You serious?

JVB makes our offense go. Spacing/slashing lanes/driving lanes etc...

We need JVB playing at many minutes at possible! And keep shooting! We will need JVB to knock down some shots in the big 12. He will find his stroke again...

He's in a slump right now, I think maybe we bring him off the bench for the next game and give the start to Godfrey. This game is one we will win by blowout and it sends a subtle message which does weird things to players.

JVB will come out of it is just a matter of when. He is improving. There was one play last night when he posted up and just stayed there, they ended it up passing it around him to the guy cutting in uncovered on the back side, he didn't move, he didn't try and make a play on the cutter. He did what he needed to...sadly no one helped out.

Re: FH needs to have heart to heart with V

I'm not sure of the game plan on getting help down low. Obviously JVB is all alone too many times with real bigs. As a player its hard to let one go to live another play. I seen some more preventing the post in set plays. Fast breaks and rebounding (offensive putbacks) is where the fouls tend to come from.

JVB made some progress last night. The 6 points were OK, but the 9 rebounds were better. The most encouraging development was that he remained in the game after picking up his 3rd foul and ended up playing around 10 productive minutes down the stretch. Definitely something to build on, and I expect to see some breakout games in the near future.

he does seem a little bratty at times

But if any cant see how much smoother and better the offense runs with him in there they are blind. Also notice how he almost always takes the 1st shot to start a game and its a 3.
