reports are that at his presser, he kind of faked picking up the Iowa hat before picking up the Oregon one. That would sting.

Yeah, especially with the way the season has gone so far for Iowa.

Anyway, I figured he wouldn't come to Iowa. If ND hadn't been sucking for the last couple years, he might have ended up there, along with other highly touted WRs. But Oregon doesn't surprise me. Their offense would probably use a star receiver like French properly. Iowa...no such guarantee.

Iowa did not want him. Seriously go over to Iowas rivals page. They really wanted him 2 weeks ago. However since he commited to Oregon he has become "not that good".

I know he's projected at a number of positions including tight end. Who knows if he'll end up playing the position, but imagine the prospect of being an athletic tight end in the Oregon system. That's got to be pretty tantalizing.

Especially if he's a defensive end.

No bother. he'll probably play there when he transfers back to the state after a year in Oregon. The only question will be, Iowa or Iowa State?

yeah, there's some big time sour grapes going on over at HN right now. Too their credit, it's human nature to feel that way when dealing with rejection. We see it here on CF all the time.

If it looked like he'll be playing TE instead of WR, then I'm not sure Iowa would have been a good decision, considering how many TEs we have. I mean, we have a 4 star TE in CJ, and I don't even think he saw a single snap this year.

He's actually not that good right now. He's got athletic ability that may thrive at Oregon but he'll need time.

Not to mention that I would assume that the tight end position at Iowa and the tight end position at Oregon are pretty different when it comes to responsibilities.

What is he? 6'6 230lbs? Is that really a WR build? How many other wideouts are built like that? as freshmen? Not saying he won't but he would absolutely break the mold if he ended up playing receiver.

Iowa fans have been saying this for months, and I would agree with them. He is just a raw athlete at this moment. That doesn't really work out all that well in football.

They basically wanted him so they could say they locked up the border of the state, and not because they thought he was a can't miss recruit.

They are dumb for thinking this then. If Oregon, the number one team in the country getting ready to play for the national title, wants him. Then he has a ton of upside. They don't care about borders.

and if he projects as a tight end, like edr247 said, Iowa already has plenty of talent at that position, under which he could develop.

I'm not familiar enough with Iowa's roster to be able to make the same statement if he were to end up as a DE or WR.

    Re: Christian French...

Ferentz would have been overjoyed to have French, stick him at defensive end, and put some muscle on him. Don't let anyone on a board fool ya.
