    Wonder how this will go?

ISU to answer questions, seek input on proposed sports complex and ag pavilion | Ames News Online

ISU officials working on plans for a new outdoor sports complex and an agriculture pavilion near Wallace-Wilson residence halls (the Towers) are inviting neighbors in the area to a Dec. 8 meeting on the projects. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the Knapp Storms Dining Complex.

Vice president Warren Madden, athletics director Jamie Pollard and animal science department chair Maynard Hogberg are among officials who will be on hand to discuss the plans, answer questions and seek input from neighbors. You'd think the city of ames would eventually realize the only reason it isn't just a tiny farming village is because of the university.

Ironic then that many (if not most) of the folks who whine/complain about progress in this town are ISU faculty members...

Seems like any proposed new retail project (like the proposed mall at 13th) is met with an opposition parade of ISU profs at city council meetings. It's as if they want Ames to always be dependent on the university.

I find it funny that the animal science department chair's name is Maynard Hogberg!

    First "g" is silent. It's pronounced ho-berg.

Re: Pollard faces neighborhood tonight about new sports complex

The comments are hilarious. I lived in the neighborhood for a while a couple of years ago and loved being that close to ISU. I also had students as neighbors diagonally across the street and on down and even during VEISHA had no noise issues.

VEISHA Saturday they turned the music down at 10:30 without being asked. I went over the next day to thank them.

Ames will never grow because of a certain sector of the residents/

Cliffs' Notes version of the comments thus far: "Get off my lawn!". They're all worried about drunk track fans and soccer hooligans.

    Tailgating for track season, anyone?

Re: Pollard faces neighborhood tonight about new sports complex

Who would ever want to buy next to a huge sporting area. Go to any city in the country where huge sports areas are located and you will find the entire 3 mile area around the place a totally trashy area witrh run down property and filth everywhere. The ISU powers that be dont give a rip and we are totally destroyed.
I like this comment. Hello you already live a lot closer than 3 miles from Jack Trice and Hilton.

This makes me imagine that all the track fans that normally attend those events will be like Shooter McGavin when all the drunks start showing up at the golf course and throwing beach balls while he's putting.

"Damn you people, this is track, not a rock concert!"

That's a beaut of a comment. Almost all of Ames is within 3 miles of the stadium.

Sorry, but if you live in an area known as Campustown, you probably should be prepared to have to put up with campus activities, campus traffic and students.

I have no sympathy. You get what you pay for. If people bought into this area thinking nothing would ever change then they are naive or just plain dumb.
