    Hoiberg over his head

Watching the UNI game tonight with some friends, a Hawk fan spouted off that Fred's in over is head and doesn't know anything about coaching.

The way I see it, our new coach only has a 10 man roster and he's already has 7 wins and only 2 losses. The two losses he has on the books is by a combined score of 5 or 6 points. He's got some blue chip players waiting in the wings. I think he's doing freaking awesome with the cards he was dealt.

He had 3 returning players and is playing 3 freshmen bigs, what do people expect.

And fact is, while we couldve won the UNI game if we'd played better, i think with better (aka not absolutely horrible) officiating we'dve won that game too.

I see your point, but couldn't you say we could have won any game if we played better? Our football team could have beat Oklahoma if they played better.

You know I didn't like the officiating either, but do think it was called fairly evenly. They just called the game really tight which worked against our aggressive defense and run and gun offense.

I was amazed at how different the officiating was for the Cal game. About polar opposite of the UNI game and we still didn't win that one.

Until we get better in the paint, Hoiberg will be coaching with one arm tied behind his back (not literally, that would look weird).

Obviously. Im saying that even with us playing like we did, we still win that game with better officiating.

    Bonehead.....

Did the hawkchump sanitize his head after he pulled it out....maybe that explains his idiot comments...he was still goofy from breathing all that homemade methane gas.

I think the experience of CFH and coaching experience of Bobby Lutz will right the ship.

Maybe the Hawkchump should be worring if any of the BB players are hanging loose with DKJ.

    Re: Hoiberg over his head

I'm not judging Fred's coaching ability until next year. He clearly doesn't have much to work with right now and really, he's done a fine job to this point. The Creighton game was getting away from us and we reeled that one back in and found a way to win. Not to mention Creighton played the game of their life that day and still didn't get it done.

The UNI and Cal games were lost late but we were right there. If Fred was over his head, we'd have a terrible loss or two already and even if that did happen, it would still be dumb to say he's over his head. He's a rookie coach. He'll make some mistakes along the way. This is a good year for him to get some experience, too.

You also have to remember he has coached 9 games at this level. He is learning on the job with talent that well isnt top notch.

Hoiberg is to ISU what Michael was to the Corleone family. He has surrounded himself with talent and is slowly setting up all competitors for one grand death blow. The beast is hungry.

CFH is doing a fine job. Unless it's Bobby Lutz doing the X's and O's, this is where Fred has impressed me the most. Called sets out of time outs and most inbound plays under the hoop are a day and night improvement from the previous regime.

    Re: Hoiberg over his head

Yes, it must be that great Fran coaching that made UNI not be able to hit wide open shots tonight. UNI shot well at home but couldn't hit anything on the road. Hopefully we don't have that problem so we can come out with a win.
