FOOTBALL RECRUITING: Mid-week visitor in town tomorrow

Just got word that Iowa State will have a mid-week official visitor in town tomorrow through Friday.

His name is Sam Tautolo, an offensive lineman out of Saddleback C.C. in California.

Glad to see we are going after some big Juco linemen to fill out the class. We would be bowling this year if we had a slightly better OL and DL... especially the DL.

Agreed any good JUCOs could be huge for next year. Especially on D. Add Givens off a redshirt and the D might be solid next year.

The last I heard was that someone here said that he had been a terror for the scout team...when is the FB Awards Banquet? It'll be interesting to see who gets the Scout Team O and D Players of te Year!

Re: FOOTBALL RECRUITING: Mid-week visitor in town tomorrow

I'm wondering about this kid. Seems to me that ISU was after a bunch of JUCO OLs early on, but backed off (or got beaten out). They didn't offer Heiar from Iowa Western even though he has a handful of BCS offers including iowa. And CPR has said in a couple of instances that Farniok is going to be a starter next season. On the other side of the ball, there is a major hole behind Rump. They brought in Taumoepeau on a visit and we basically haven't heard from him since. Taumoepeau didn't play in his final few JUCO games...probably got hurt I'd guess. So, I'm wondering whether the staff moved on from Taumoepeau and offered Tautolo as a DL. Seems weird, but ISU did that with Tuba Rubin and it worked out pretty well.

Rubin had actually played some DL in college though. Has this guy? I'm wondering if we aren't having some defections on the team and that's the reason we are bringing in and offering more guys. Did a backup QB quit? Is one of the center prospects leaving the team? Is someone who has already committed having grade issues?

I would have sworn about three weeks ago that we are close to being done recruiting, and now we're bringing in players for visits at spots where I thought we were already pretty crowded: QB (three on the roster, two more coming in and a rumor that a juco might have committed and we're doing an in-home on yet another), center (Farniok and Tuftee. You don't bring in a juco to provide depth, you bring in jucos to start), RB (5 on the roster, one more coming in, one more still being recruited), WR (10 on the roster, two more coming in and a rumor of a third commit Samuel Ajala when we only graduate one.)

Our recruiting has baffled me this year.

Me too. I thought that they had just a few spots left a few weeks ago. Pretty much every new commit from here on out means that one current player is leaving. They are right there up against the 85 limit with the returnees and current commits.
