Was she the one that had some form of cancer?

Yeah. Breast Cancer, I think. If I remember right it was around 2004 that she made the announcement.

I think it was right after the primaries in '08.

She was initially diagnosed in 2004. She went into remission and the cancer came back in 2007

    Re: Elizabeth Edwards died.

I lost my mother in the same way...diagnosed, went into remission then came back spread everywhere. Terrible way to watch a loved one die. I've yet to meet a cancer patient that isnt strong and determined though. I hope that one day we can conquer this piece of **** disease that kills too many of our loved ones every day.

Guys, I'll be honest. This is a tough thread to moderate. Let's keep it as clean as possible, remembering that someone passed away, and keep it non-political. Again, there are so many lines here, it is a tough one to mod. Make our job easy.

    Re: Elizabeth Edwards died.

RIP. She seemed like a classy woman most the time. I feel sorry for what she had to suffer through during her last years, although I thought she handled a lot of it with more grace than most of us would.

While she wasn't perfect, and I am sure I disagreed with her on a whole host of subjects, I think she earned at least a little of our respect during the last few years.

For those of you who don't know, she was especially attractive in her younger years:

There is no need to moderate this thread. If no one here is related to her it should be closed now. There is absolutely no reason to bring it up in a forum like this, off topic or not. To many chances to give people to stick their foot in their mouths, too close to politics as well.

    Re: Elizabeth Edwards died.

There shouldn't need to be moderation of a thread about a woman dying because of recurrent breast cancer.

Regardless of your political affilliations, she appeared to handle her diagnosis and treatment with grace, courage and dignity. Working at UI Hospitals, I've been around cancer patients from 5 years old to 90 years old and they all seem to posess a great deal of courage.

    Re: Elizabeth Edwards died.

My mom passed away from breast cancer also. After her first operation, they felt that they had found it all. She went back every few months for a check-up, and back then if you were clear for 5 years, you were pronounced cured. On her last check-up before the 5 years were up, they found more of it in her neck and some glands. She passed away about 6 months later. It was tough to watch her fight that for so many years.

    Re: Elizabeth Edwards died.

i'm guessing she must have had a stroke/heart attack or something related to her illness given She was just posting on her facebook page yesterday. if she was that sick to be close to death, i can't imagine someone being able to have the drive/desire/interest to be posting on facebook.

news was that her cancer had spread to her liver, and that she had weeks/months to live.

I suspect that she had prepared that facebook statement a while ago and then when the end looked very near, someone posted it for her. She was in the hospital for a week around Thanksgiving and the family was able to keep that quiet. I'm guessing that they wanted the news out before she passed away, but not very far in advance so that there wouldn't be constant presense of the media at her home.
