    Michigan's Coach

what was with the constant police escort for the Michigan coach today? They sat at either end of the bench and even waited for him at the end of line when they were shaking hands.

Is he on probation or something?

    Re: Michigan's Coach

I saw the video, but that was all just about reputation?

Was it ISU that said you need to have this or was it him saying you better do this?

    Re: Michigan's Coach

We sat up behind the Mich. bench, and let's just say that the coach's body language was vigorous.

    Re: Michigan's Coach

For those who don't know, Borseth was only a few hours away from being announced as Colorado's coach back in 2005 before he backed out. They later hired Kathy McConnell-Miller instead.

What do you mean he has a reputation? For someone who does'nt live in the rea and didn't watch the game... just tell me what you mean.

Apparently it was ISU's idea, as Borseth was asked about it by Michigan's play-by-play announcer on his post-game show; Borseth said he didn't have a clue, and had never seen it before.
Nice to know that with ISU's tight budget issues, the Dept. of Public Safety has $$$ to pay officers for something like that...

He has a reputation for being particularly demonstrative.

    Re: Michigan's Coach

There is always 2 police officers that sit behind the opposing teams bench, Men's or Women's. But today they were a little more active. They usually always walk with the coach/team to the locker room at halftime, but I did notice that they stood around and stood on the floor right by the Michigan radio announcer after the game when they were interviewing him...that, I thought was a little weird.

    Re: Michigan's Coach

On the broadcast, Molly said several times he would be the most "animated" coach ISU fans would see this season. They also said a couple times he was bordering on a technical.

I'm going to ask one of the police officers tomorrow night at the men's game. It looked bizarre.
Screaming at a presser about offensive rebounds is one thing; having cops hovering around him courtside is another. I've never heard of Borseth getting out of line during a game; he's not LE or Bobby Knight.

He got down to the ground and was doing a weird bird like arm flap. I didn't get that.

Rich said on the broadcast he was calling a play.

Ya, they were definitely paying a little closer attention to him. The only unusual thing I saw was after the game when he was at the scores table. The 2 officers sitting behind the bench and walking to the locker room with the coach at half, is completely normal.

DPS doesn't have budget issues I'll betcha. They were generating $3 million a couple years ago. Parking tickets have since doubled. I'll betcha they can find places to waste that other $2 million they're probably making now.
