    Students aren't the only ones!

I agree that the student section still needs a little bit of work, but we aren't the only ones at the game. Students only make up for a small amount. I feel like the rest of the crowd needs to get more involved as well. I understand they don't want to stand an yell oooo the whole time that's cool. But it's not just the student section.

A good "environment" will always start with an engaged student. Name one great home court advantage in College bb that doesn't have a great student section. You can't.

Re: Students aren't the only ones!

With about a minute left on the pre-game clock I was worried we were going to end up with only 200 or so non-students in the parquet. They all snuck in during player intros. I know ISU fans are notoriously "late-arriving", but that was taking it to a new level.

And I completely agree with you.

Did this need a new thread?

Fact is that the basketball crowds don't really start firing up until after Christmas break.

You're missing my point. I'm not saying that the student section doesn't need to get better and that they don't need to do anything. I'm just saying that we aren't the only ones who should be getting yelled at for not being the best.

You are missing my point. It always has to start with the student section. You need to lead.

I was disappointed in the crowd today, should have been a lot more there and the upper deck near full. Students showed up well today but I'm sure a lot had to do with the jersey giveaway. They should show up like that for EVERY game IMO.

I don't know if you were at the game today (honestly I don't) but we were pretty active at the game.

I don't know how anyone can say that they were disappointed with the crowd today. I thought the crowd was electric. The student section was full, they were loud, and even the rest of the fans in Hilton stood up and cheered on the Cyclones during the key moments of the game. I think the Cyclone Alley seating is perfect, we're all together, we feed off of each other's energy, and it looks really cool on TV and from above.

Re: Students aren't the only ones!

Living in Arizona, I cannot go to games, so I really can't complain. The Cal game was on TV here in Phoenix, and I must say I was disappointed in the crowd. Late in the game, there was a timeout, and they showed the Cal bench. You could see about the first 5-6 rows behind the bench, and NOT ONE PERSON was standing. Most were leaning back, arms crossed, not making a sound. I know we aren't Duke, KU, UNC etc. But in most gyms the fans behind the bench would be making it impossible for them to even talk during that timeout.

I guess we have to win more to earn that sort of support.

That's because the spot right behind the opposing bench is generally the away teams fans..at least it has been this year.

The Cal players seemed to notice the student section.

This. Noise is noise and we need more noise. Gert the soccer horns. Get the facial pics. Need more motion in the section at critical times.

Well its like looking at it like a football team....I see this problem like the 1996 ISU football team....We have a 1 great talent and the rest of sub par players....The students are the "troy davis"....I know it may be a bit of a stretch but thats the closest anecdote i could use...Very few of the people on the sides make noise...they never do unless a big play is made...or in the rare occasions of them yelling at a bad play....

The truth is that the more years FH puts in and McDermott's tenure of comedy is further in the rearview mirror...the better attendance/enthusiasm will be.

Some on this board fail/refuse to realise the hole McD put us in.
