    What if Iowa State..

made the same kind of progress Stanford has since they hired Harbaugh? I think both programs were in relatively similar shape when Harbaugh and Rhoads were hired.

Here is how Harbaugh has done since 2007:

2007: 4-8... remember they had that one big win over USC? That was like our Nebraska win.

2008: 5-7... What was our record again this year?

2009: 8-4... kind of a breakout year. Toby Gerhart + Andrew Luck + team finally starting to gel in Harbaugh's system. Maybe we can see the same type of thing here next year.

2010: 11-1... What can i say? Its STANFORD.. and they're going to be in the ROSE bowl this season. They had one tough loss @Oregon and have just played really great football all season long.

If Stanford can do it, Iowa State can do it!!!!

    Re: What if Iowa State..

Stanford has a lot of good student athletes, they are usually impressive in basketball but have been down a little since the Lopez twins.

They should get only better in football with USC down, UCLA not doing anything, Cal down/not doing anything.

edit: doesn't the high schools of the state of California produce the most NFL players too? That recruiting has to help.

I like where your heads at, but recruiting to Stanford is a lot easier than recruiting to ISU, especially when they sit right smack dab in the middle of some of the best athletes in the country.

Texas is also down in the Big 12. Nebraska is leaving. Maybe its time we step up?

Recruiting in California is kind of an X-factor. However, they have ALWAYS been in California, but they haven't always been good. There is still only enough talent in the state for the Pac 10 to have 1-2 really good teams, 2-7 good teams and the rest are just bad. Stanford found themselves in the bad category before harbaugh.

I agree, and Stanford was in awful, awful shape when Harbaugh got there. Plus, we have much more fan support than Stanford has, even today. I think they sold out one game in their 50,000 stadium this year.
If Stanford can do it, ISU can.

California is loaded with talent. Harbaugh has NFL ties which makes recruiting some of the better players in the nation to Stanford easier. Andrew Luck was the 4th ranked QB in the nation and had scholarships from about everyone in the nation.

If Tiller is our QB next year I'm excited. If Capello or Barnett is our QB next year, I'm very very excited. I like where we are going. Hopefully we can still pull in a few more good recruits.

You're using the hindsight bias, here is the example:

    Stanford wins 11 games... Why?
"Well its because they are in a better situation than ISU"

its hard to explain. Your attributing Stanfords success to something thats different Now, than the position they were in 5 years ago? They are still recruiting from the same talent pool! Why weren't they good 5 years ago? Because USC was good? Well, they aren't now.

Its like the ISU vs colorado game this year. Before the game we were all like "were gonna kill these guys, they don't have a coach!!" But then afterwards since we got smoked, we were all like "well duh.. of course colorado was going to win.. the players were going to rally to prove they weren't the problem it was hawkins"

ISU was in prime position in 2004 and 2005 but we flopped. The big 12 will not be better in 2011 than the pac 10 was in 2009, but will ISU be ready to win 8 games?? Stanford got a little bit of a break with USC going down a little.. although they had already beaten them when they were really good.

Its not impossible for ISU to do what Stanford has done. We just need to get our **** together like harbaugh and his staff have done

I'm not saying its impossible for ISU to do what they have done. But, its definitely easier for Stanford, given their location.

Once you're arrested, at least the children will know where their father is.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

Don't get this, as they stunk for a long time, and went through several coaches, before Harbaugh turned them around. If it was easier for Stanford, they would have had a winning tradition. They haven't.

Here's the way I see it: if a team happens to get good, then it will be easier to recruit to that team. If that "said" team also sits in the middle of California, Texas, or Florida, then it will be even easier to recruit there. (i.e. Standford, TCU, etc)

If you were a top recruit with offers to ISU and Stanford, everything being equal, minus location, and you live 100 miles away from Stanford? Where would you choose?
