Update. a couple days late and a few dollars short

Hello all, I got a chance to be in Ames this saturday and visited the prospect camp. I also stayed with some of my buddys on the team. I was going to let everyone know what i had found right when i got to a computer saturday night but ofcourse the catastrophic failure. I got a chance to speak with the MLB recruit from Missouri City Texas, Blake Slaughter. He spoke of having 10 offers on the table and asked questions about K State and ISU. He believes that K State has alot to offer but had some fantastic words about ISU. Blake and his mother flew via Houston to Kansas City and rental car to Ames. Blake commented that this was his first time at ISU and that it is beautiful. Also while in the Bergstrom practice facility he noted that it was amazing, especially after the fans were turnt on to suck the hot air out. In a little more personal conversation he told me that the only reason he is seriously considering ISU is because of Coach Chizik. He stated that if you play for Coach Chizik, you know you are going to be an awesome defense, a great player.. all that you can be. Chizik is a known name in Texas highschools according to Slaughter. We also chatted about Coach Bolt and i told Blake about coach Bolts weight loss and we both agreed that he was a fantastic coach and an even better person with a great sense of humor. I also chatted with Blake about Mcguffie, he had met Mcguffie and said that when he did meet him that Sam was SERIOUSLY considering coming to ISU because of his girlfriend coming for track. That point is ofcourse void now because he committed to Michigan. This also is irrelevant but Slaughter told me that if Mcguffie committed to ISU, Slaughter would immediatly join forces. Blake was very concerned of Academics and told me that would be an influence on his decision. I asked him what he was interested in and he replied " Mechanical Engineering " my eyes lit up and i let him know that ISU had one of the very best mechanical engineering schools in the nation. I also told him that former LB Jamar Buchannan went through Mechanical Engineering and football and did great. Blakes performance in the camp wasnt anything to write home about, he told me that he doesnt normally do well in camps. I think alot of it was pressure.. everywhere he went he had a coach shaking his hand or yelling MR SLAUGHTER. After his lunch break he had a mishap on one of Coach Bolts drills and Coach Bolt yelled, Slaughter had too many cookies, Chizik came over and said "Slaughter you had too many cookies?" Slaughters Build is thick, but he is lacks in the height department 5'11 is not a lie.

It was a fantastic day and i enjoyed being around everything. a few things i could let you know about the coaches is, Wayne Bolt is a favorite, this guy is one of the funniest people i have met. He had the recruits rolling all day. In one of his drills he was showing how to shoot the hips through when you hit. He turnt away from the parents on the sideline and told the players, throw your hips into it like you are getting some. He then proceeded to say, you see how i turnt away from the parents when i told you that? now thats good coachin.

Another noteable is Barney Farrar, this guy is an intense little guy with a good sense of humor as well. He and coach Koonz got into it alot and were very competitive when 7 on 7 was going on. Koonz seems like a terrific coach as well.

I have so much that i could share with all of you but ive lost you by this point.

good to see everyone again, i was having issues without CF

also, Kurtis Taylor told me that he is ready to go, he is ultimately excited. Said that this is going to be a very special year and when asked about his injury, he told me that everything happens for a reason and he has been given the opportunity to go at it again and he is going to make the best of it.

Hi 33, that's geat news about Kurtis. I'm excited to see him hit the field. I've always wondered, what is harder to overcome after an injury like he had. Is it the physical part or is the mental part even tougher. To me it would be awfully difficult to get that injury out of your head when you're on the field. But of course, I'm not a football player and not nearly as tough as these guys!! Thanks for all the other inside info, it's fun to know a little bit about what's going on over there.

By the way, Kurtis looks like a football player!!! I wish him the best this year!!

Re: Update. a couple days late and a few dollars short

I had a great time listening to Bolt yelling his head off during the spring game. It never once sounded like he was upset (or maybe he was?), but you could tell he's got a lot of passion for the game. Glad to hear he's a team favorite. Something tells me that above all the cheering and crowd noise during games this year, you're still going to be hearing him yelling about something. I wouldn't be surprised to hear him during televised games.
